FELKER AND MORTON SPLIT MIDGET ROUND UP WINS

GARDEN CITY, KANS. (July 8, 2019) – Following a heavy downpour on Friday night, the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League and the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association squared off with double shows on Saturday at Airport Raceway. The Garden City, Kans. track saw a pair of thrilling programs with Andrew Felker of Carl Junction, Mo. and Chance Morton of Coweta, Okla. splitting victories in the Midget Round Up.

After another brief morning shower attempted to wash away Saturday’s slate, the racing picked up in the afternoon with the first of two shows. Chris Sheil of Aurora, Colo. won Smith Titanium heat one, Felker topped Keizer Wheels heat two, Bob Harr of Arvada, Colo. claimed Saldana Racing Products heat three and Gary Taylor of Snhomish, Wash. earned Rod End Supply heat four.

Starting from fourth in the feature, Felker quickly shot to the front and assumed the early lead aboard his Chad Shields Racing, Ripper/Fontana No. 44S. Going the distance, Felker held on to secure the first of two Midget Round Up feature wins at Airport Raceway, marking his third POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League victory of the season.

Trailing Felker to the finish line in the afternoon show was Gary Taylor with a second-place effort in the Dunlap Performance No. 32 and Tyler Seavey of Sutter, Calif. in third-place. Robert Dalby of Anaheim, Calif. and Hank Davis of Sand Springs, Okla. rounded out the top five.

A several hour break ensued as teams and drivers prepared their cars for the second program, set to conclude the Midget Round Up. This time around, Felker won Smith Titanium heat one, Chance Morton led Keizer Wheels heat two, Hank Davis topped Saldana Racing Products heat three and Jeff Crook bested Rod End Supply heat four.

Storming to the front on a unique surface, Chance Morton bolted from sixth-to-first aboard his No. 7M machine and went into defense mode. The Coweta, Okla. competitor fought off all contenders and hung on to earn his first POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League victory of the year. Hank Davis, Andrew Felker, Zac Taylor (from 20th) and Carson Garrett rounded out the top five.

Up next for the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League is a trio of races in the “Show-Me State” next weekend, co-sanctioned with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets. The tripleheader begins with back-to-back nights at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo. on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13 followed by a Sunday, July 14 appearance at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Mo.
