Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals Next For Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert – MESQUITE, Texas (October 14, 2020) The final rounds of the 2020 season are set to go down at the famed Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, with the 47th running of the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals.

The 97th and 98th National Tour events to be contested at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, the series’ first visit to the Mesquite, Texas oval came on June 21, 1994, with Shane Carson taking the Speedweek victory.

Looking back to the 2019 event, visits to Victory Lane were split between Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Roger Crockett. Coming into the weekend double, it is Crockett chasing Hafertepe in National Tour standings. While the math is in Hafertepe’s favor for his fifth consecutive title, Crockett is looking to end out on a strong note and post his first runner-up result in Tour Standings.

Nipping at Crockett’s heels is Scott Bogucki. Only Trailing by 66 markers, the Australian not alone in the chase as second through seventh, is only separated by 115 points. Looking through the fight, fourth in standings is held by Dylan Westbrook. The current leader in the battle for the Brodix National Rookie of the Year, the Scotland, Ont. Can. shoe only has an eight-point advantage over Harli White. Likewise, Jordon Mallett is only seven points out of cracking the top five, while Blake Hahn sits 13 markers out of fifth.

Finishing out the tour regulars, Matt Covington is currently eighth with Garet Williamson ninth. After falling out of the top ten, Alex Hill has clawed her way back to tenth. Slipping back to 11th, Florida’s Danny Sams III is a mere 16 points behind with Chase Randall, Ryan Bickett, Travis Reber in pursuit. Despite only being able to run a limited schedule, Justin Sanders rounds out the top fifteen.

Friday includes IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, USRA Modifieds and Factory Stocks with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series racing for $3,000 to win, $400 to start. Saturday brings in IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, USRA Limited Modifieds, and Texas Winged Modifieds with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series purse upped to $4,000 to win, $400 to start.
