Wilson Highlights Hectic Season With Sixth-Place Finish in All Star Standings

Inside Line Promotions – BENTON RIDGE, Ohio (Nov. 30, 2020) – Greg Wilson posted a sixth-place result in the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions championship standings during a wild 2020 season that was altered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It marked the second straight season with that points finish and the 17th time Wilson and his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics, DNC Hydraulics and Gear Off Road sponsored team have ended in the top 10 in the standings during Wilson’s career.

“Honestly, it just didn’t seem like a race season,” he said. “I like the fans and feed off them. To not have them at some of the events and have them limited at certain events, it just felt like you were at a test session. But all in all, I’m thankful we got to do some racing and do the things we needed to keep our sponsors happy. Some other sports didn’t even get that opportunity.”

Wilson scored a trio of top fives and 10 top 10s in All Star competition. He added five podium outings while competing with the USCS Series.

“The year was a bit like a roller coaster,” he said. “I felt like there were times we were headed in the right direction. I don’t know if it was starting the season and then stopping for however long we stopped in the spring (because of the pandemic). With the way the schedules were it seemed like every field we had were hellacious fields, which was great for the spectators. It didn’t seem like we could get the consistency to make headway we wanted.”

Wilson continued to work to find the proper balance his race car desired and he felt like he struck something in the final handful of races.

“You never know until you get to the race track,” he said. “We spent quite a bit of time with Tim Engler and learned what we need to work on. We’re trying to address that. Race car and component-wise, things you would change that could change your program for the better or worse, we’ve done enough stuff trying and trying. We’re better if we leave that stuff alone and try to work on the details.

“We need to work on the right things instead of changing too many things and we need to work on simplifying our program. I came off the World of Outlaws deal because of the travel and being spread too thin. This year we did a lot of traveling and it got me spread thin again. We have to fix some of that. I feel like that will be key to our success.

“Also, as the story has been for three or four years, if we could get our qualifying to where it is mediocre, a lot of nights we’re better come feature-time. There’s so many nights we don’t make it that far because we start off the night so bad. At the end of the year we changed some stuff and I feel we have a better direction. Again, you don’t know until you start racing, but I’m confident as 2021 starts rolling we’ll be in a good position.”
