Inside Line Promotions – WARRNAMBOOL, Victoria, Australia (Jan. 23, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi highlighted last week’s action by recording a top-10 finish during the Kings Challenge.

Scelzi opened the busy weekend on Thursday at Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier, South Australia, Australia, where he qualified fourth quickest in his group before placing third in a heat race. That locked the Wormall Motorsport driver into the 14th starting position for the Kings Challenge A Main.

“The groove was around the wall so it was really tough to pass,” he said. “We took what we could get and maneuvered to a top-10 finish so that was a positive.”

Scelzi gained a handful of positions throughout the race before posting a 10th-place result, which marked his third top 10 of the trip.

The weekend wrapped up at Premier Speedway for the famed Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, which is essentially Australia’s Knoxville Nationals.

“We had a great showing there last year and it just wasn’t in our favor this year,” Scelzi said. “It’s frustrating, but that happens in racing.”

Scelzi opened his preliminary night on Saturday by timing in 13th quickest in his group.

“It down poured before my heat race so we were in a tough situation,” he said.

Scelzi finished where he started – fifth – on the tricky track during his first heat race. He advanced from sixth to fourth place in the second heat, which lined him up on the inside of the third row in the B Main.

“We were up to third and the drivers running first and second crashed right in front of me,” he said. “I had nowhere to go and was involved so that ended our night early.”

The event finale came on Sunday, but luck wasn’t on Scelzi’s side.

“We started on the pole of a heat race, but I was third by the time we got to the flag stand on the start,” he said. “It was one lane around the top. I went to pass for second and got into the wall so we had a DNF. We elected not to start the C Main.”

The team will take this weekend off to regroup before tackling the next World Series Sprintcars event on Feb. 2-3 at Gulf Western Independent Oils Raceway in Latrobe, Tasmania, Australia.

“I’m excited to head to Tasmania,” he said. “The Wormall Motorsport guys have been working hard and I appreciate everything they do. Hopefully we can reward them with a couple of great finishes in Tasmania.”
