Schafer Tops TSCS Sprints At Kouba Memorial

Racing with their winged counterparts at the 21st Annual Kouba Memorial, the Traditional sprints had a solid 16 car field on a perfect night for racing. Cam Schafer grabbed the lead following a two-position penalty to leader Brain VanMeveren following a lap 10 restart and led the remainder of the feature for his third win of the season.

The penultimate race of the night belonged to the UMSS Traditional Sprints, paced to green by Mike Mueller and Cam Schafer. After a jump on the initial start by Mueller, scheduled third-starter Brian “The Dragon” VanMeveren moved up to the pole and held the point for the first half of the race. On a lap ten restart, Cam Schafer assumed the point after VanMeveren was docked two positions for jumping the start. Once out front, the Open Wheel Nationals champion hugged the bottom groove fending off veteran racer Johnny Parsons III and VanMeveren. While the majority of the field was bottom feeding, series points leader Rob Caho, Jr. was in his comfort zone, running the cushion at full throttle. After starting the race in seventh position, Caho blazed his own trail to as high as third place before he stopped gaining positions. For the last several laps, it was Schafer and company down low and Caho up high. At the final double checkers, Schafer nabbed top honors in front of Parsons, VanMeveren, Caho and Mueller.
