Chase Viebrock Benefit Night at CLS May 21

Accidents and crashes are part of the sport of auto racing. Sometimes drivers walk away and sometimes they are injured. Such was the case on Saturday night May 14 at the Cedar Lake Speedway during the UMSS Traditional sprint car feature race. On lap 5, Chase Viebrock of New Richmond took a nasty series of flips down the backstretch in his sprint car. Chase was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul and has several broken bones in his back. According to reports, he will need to wear a brace for the next three months and see how the healing process comes along.

The UMSS and Cedar Lake Speedway have joined together for next Saturday night May 21 in an effort to help raise some funds. The Traditional sprint car drivers will be going into the stands during intermission with their helmets and ALL proceeds they collect will be given to the Viebrock family to help deter some of the medical expenses related to Chase's injury. Stated Ron Bernhagen of the UMSS, "No matter what type of medical insurance a driver has, there are always some costs that their family ends up having to pay for. With the support of fans and fellow drivers helping in this manner, it certainly can help to make a difference." Bob Kaufman of Cedar Lake Speedway continued, "The Viebrock family has been a part of Cedar Lake racing for decades, and we certainly encourage fans to donate in order to help out this great racing family here in our area. It is our hope that Chase will make a full recovery and be back out racing when his health permits."

On behalf of the UMSS and Cedar Lake Speedway, we welcome all fans to come on out next Saturday night May 21, and if you are able to, make a donation when the sprint car drivers come into the stands in order to raise some funds to help offset some of the costs involved with Chase's medical care and his road to recovery. A regular five division racing program, including the Traditional sprints, is scheduled to get underway next Saturday at 6:00pm. See you at the track!
