Brad Peterson Picks Up Second Traditional Win at Cedar Lake Speedway

After some tough luck the previous night at the Spring Lake Speedway while in second place in the feature race, Brad Peterson bounced back in strong fashion as he picked up his second win of the season at the Cedar Lake Speedway in the POWRi UMSS Lucas Oil Traditional Sprint Car Series A Main on Saturday July 14. Peterson had a solid performance all evening, finishing second in his heat race, winning the Barb Brandt Memorial Dash for Cash, and leading all 25 laps in the feature on his way to Rock Auto Victory Lane. For the Lake Elmo former modified racer turned wingless sprint car driver, it was Brad's third career Traditional sprint car victory with all of them coming at his home track. The win paid Peterson $502 thanks to some bonus money from GRP Motorsports. Peterson thanked his sponsors, crew family and everyone involved with putting his potent #93 non-winged sprint car on the track for each and every race. Peterson truly is living the dream and making long-lasting memories in the process.

The three 10-lap heat races for the (25) Traditional sprint cars on had were won Denny Stordahl in the Pirtek Fluid Transfer Solutions heat, Blake Anderson in the Rock Auto heat and in likely the most entertaining heat race of the season so far, Johnny Parsons III defeated Peterson on the final lap of the GRP Motorsports heat. All three heats ran without a caution. The top six in passing points after the heats redrew for their feature starting spots. Peterson and current point leader Cam Schafer drew the front row with Stordahl, Parsons, Anderson and Jeremy Kerzman lining up in the two rows behind them.

Peterson powered into the lead on the opening lap and never looked back! Schafer, Parsons, Kerzman and a pair of Koubas would swap spots behind Peterson, but nobody really could touch Peterson. The race was only slowed twice under caution. Anna Hippe spun in turn three four laps into the race and Cam Schafer went up in smoke four laps later with a blown engine. The Schafer DNF certainly was not good for his bid for a second point championship, but after the races fellow competitor Bryan Roach offered the use of his second engine to Schafer and his Rathpack #14 racing team in order to help keep him in the championship chase.

With seventeen laps of nonstop racing to the finish, Peterson continued to lead the rest of the way. Kerzman finished second while Spring Lake winner Jimmy Kouba came from 11th to 3rd at checkers. Brian VanMeveren, driving the #22 Racedoc sprinter in his first local appearance of the season had a solid run in fourth. Jake Kouba rounded out the top five. Finishing sixth through tenth were Parsons, Anderson, defending champion Mike Mueller, three-time champion Rob Caho, Jr. also in his first local appearance of the season and Anna Hippe. Twenty three of the twenty five starters were still running at the finish with only three cars one lap down in this ultra-competitive division. An astounding 111 career Traditional sprint feature wins were represented by the drivers in the main event. Peterson made it 112.

The POWRi Lucas Oil Traditional sprints will have a weekend off for family activities and return to action on Saturday night July 28 back at the Cedar Lake Speedway along with the UMSS 360 winged sprints for another CLS Shootout Series event.
