SageBrush shootout shows Miniakota Drivers on Top! Wilke Takes the Brush!

Friday and Saturday August 8th and 9th would see the Miniakota Micros travel west to invade Newcastle Speedway for Sagebrush Shootout. The Miniakota muscle would add to the 26 plus micros from the Black Hills Mini-Sprint Tour. The group would run two 5 car heat races to line-up their feature for the evening. Heat race winners Jody Rosenboom and Tim Ottenbacher would make up the front row for the feature. Going on to lead all 20 laps in the feature would be Jody Rosenboom who would get challenges from Ryan Schuur a couple of times during the race but was able to hold him off. Tim Ottenbacher would settle into 3rd place with Wade Huisman and Kris Wilke rounding out your top 5. With those guys finishing in the top five, they were locked into Saturday nights East/West Challenge race. Guys that would come from qualifiers on Friday night locking themselves into the challenge race as well included Chad Nachtigal, Hometown Legend Ed Wagoner, and Colin Smith.

On Saturday night, the Miniakota group would again run two heats with Jody Rosenboom and Tim Ottenbacher setting sail on the rest of the group. Ryan Schuur would take a nasty wreck in his heat race that would end his night. Rosenboom and Ottenbacher would again lead the group to the green flag for the feature. Rosenboom would go on to win the feature yet again with strong challenges coming from Ottenbacher. Colin Simth would finish 3rd with Wade Huisman and Kris Wilke rounding out the top 5. Next up was the ‘B’ challenge race that would see Nick Birchard finish 2nd and put himself into the East/West Challenge.

The final race of the night would see a 5 row invert putting Kris Wilke on the pole of the challenge race. Wilke would go on to hold off all challenges and take the feature win. Jody Rosenboom would come from the 12th starting spot to finish 2nd. Tim Ottenbacher would take the Wagoner Well Service back row challenge and came all the way up to 6th winning the extra cash. All in all it was a great weekend for the group and they are already looking forward to bigger and better things with this trip next year.
