Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 7, 2019) – Jordon Mallett closed out his rookie campaign with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last week with two nights of racing at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

“Overall it wasn’t a bad week, but not an exceptionally good one either,” he said. “It’s been a long season and you have these types of weekends so we’ll take it.”

With the Tony Stewart presents the VANKOR Texas Sprint Car Nationals being his first-ever visit to the oval, Mallett entered Thursday’s competition feeling optimistic about his chances. Unfortunately, he lost ground on the start of a heat race and made contact with a car in front of him, which caused chassis damage and hindered the car. Mallett finished the race in seventh.

As a result, he was forced to attempt to qualify for the main event via a B Main, in which he started 10th and dropped one position to finish 11th. He took a series provisional and lined up in the 23rd starting spot for the feature. Mallett pulled in early to get an head start on repairs for Friday’s program.

“We had a bunch of damage after the heat and the car just wasn’t right really at all,” he said. “We could tell pretty early that it wasn’t going to be right and we just made the best of things.”

Mallett once again started on the pole in a heat race on Friday and he lost two positions to finish third. As a result of being among the top 30 in passing points, Mallett then ran a qualifier. He started on the pole and finished there. This secured him the ninth starting spot in the A Main.

In the feature, Mallett once again struggled to get comfortable behind the wheel as he finished 20th. It was his 31st top 20 of the season and the result secured him the ninth position in the championship standings.

“We were good enough to get in the show and the car was decent in the qualifier to where we won,” he said. “But come feature-time it was obvious the car still wasn’t right and we just held on for the best finish we could get.”

While the result was disappointing, Mallett chalked a lot of it up to a rookie curve and believes his team is better because of the struggles.

“I’m pretty proud of everything we accomplished this year as a rookie on a very competitive circuit,” he said. “We learned a lot each night and it was a very tough season. But I’m happy with what we did as a team and I can’t wait to get going on 2020.”
