Roger Toops Returning To Leadership Role With The ASCS Southwest Region

Bryan Hulbert – TULSA, Okla. (October 26, 2020) Back in the Saddle again, Roger Toops will return to the role of Competition Director for the ASCS Southwest Region.
Stepping away at the close of the 2017 season, it didn’t take long for Roger to step back into the racing world. Spending time working at Arizona Speedway over the 2020 season, Roger made the decision after a call from Emmett Hahn to return to his former ASCS role.
“It was a shock to get the call,” stated Roger.
“It wasn’t something I had really considered happening, yet at the same time, it had crossed my mind in the what-if category. What would I do? and getting the call, I was very happy that he did and grateful to be presented with the chance. When you have an opportunity to work for someone like Emmett, it’s not just an average deal. ASCS is the most successful Sprint Car series in the country and to be part of it just keeps you motivated to keep advancing and keep things top shelf.”
Under the direction of Jonah Trussell since the start of the 2018 season, the owner and promoter of Arizona Speedway has provided the backbone of the schedule and has helped Sprint Car racing as a whole in Arizona with not only the ASCS Southwest Region but also the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Non-Wing Series.
“I appreciate very much what Jonah has done and does for Sprint Car racing. I don’t think everyone really understands what all he’s had to do to make it all work down there,” explained ASCS Founder, Emmett Hahn.
“Anyone who takes on the role of track owner first off is sick. In a good way, and I speak from experience. You have to be fully dedicated to this sport, and to add two traveling series to that, I don’t think there are enough hours in the day, so having Roger come back and run the Southwest Region, that’s going to hopefully give Jonah some breathing room and not have to carry the full weight of keeping everything going and not have a target on his back all the time. Having a Director that works for the series and not the track makes a neutral deal where everyone can do their job the way it needs to be done.”
The 2020 season for the ASCS Southwest Region is set to wrap up November 27 and 28 with the Copper Classic at Arizona Speedway. Details on the event will be posted in the coming weeks.
