STSS Berks County Brawl Race Day: Action Track USA Storylines, Stars & Sleepers

Written by Chris Moore

KUTZTOWN, PA – Berks County Race Day!

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco rolls into Foley Cat Action Track USA smack dab in the middle of a busy month of May.

Tonight’s 50-lapper at Action Track is the second consecutive year the STSS Modifieds have invaded Pennsylvania for the ‘Berks County Brawl.’

The stars of the STSS do battle on the tight confines of Action Track with a blend of drivers chasing the $5,000 top prize up for grabs tonight.

THE STORYLINES

The STSS Modifieds take part in Round No. 4 of the NJ Quality Drywall South Region and Round No. 5 of the Ollie’s Overall Championship chase.

All drivers who attempt to qualify for tonight’s race will receive 75 show-up points for both the South Region and Ollie’s Overall Championship chase.

Only 16 drivers will take the green flag in the 50-lap feature tonight. A fully paid B-Main will take place prior to the A-Main.

The winner of the B-Main will receive the option to take the $1,000 for the B-Main victory or start at the tail of the A-Main.

St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada’s Mat Williamson leads the South Region and the Overall Championship heading into Action Track USA.

THE STARS

Boyertown, Pa.’s Mike Gular enters Action Track as the lone Modified winner in the history of Action Track USA. Gular has put together several laps on smaller racetracks and will look to use that to his advantage again.

Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Matt Stangle came home on the podium in last year’s event in his family-owned No. 6. The young gun has had a strong start to his 2024 and will look to cash in for his first career STSS victory.

Bobby Hackel IV didn’t win last year’s ‘Berks County Brawl,’ but wound up as the star of the show regardless. The East Greenbush, N.Y. native will look to parlay last year's stardom into a ’24 victory at Action Track,

THE SLEEPERS

Branchburg, N.J.’s Ryan Krachun finished fifth in last year’s race and is fresh off a disappointing showing at Accord (N.Y.) Speedway last week. Krachun will have a chance to exercise last week’s frustration at a place he was successful at one season ago.

Covington Township, Pa.’s Alex Yankowski has been one of the faster cars in the Northeast in ’24. The snake bitten driver has put together many laps at Action Track USA in his younger days and will look to get over the hump for his first career STSS triumph.

Boyertown, Pa.’s Kevin Hirthler won last year’s B-Main, which took place after the A-Main a season ago. Hirthler will look to return to victory lane this time in the A-Main with $5,000 on the line this time around.

ALSO IN ACTION

After a rain plagued start to the season, Action Track USA sends the 600cc Micro Sprints to action for the first time this year on Tuesday night.

The 600cc Micro Sprints will be under Action Track USA rules and procedures.
