Mullens wins at Electric City and Callaway in USMTS Missouri swing
Tanner Mullens continued his remarkable 2025 season from Thursday through Saturday as he scored his 17th and 18th feature victories of the year during Summit USMTS action in the Show-Me State.
On Thursday, 21 USMTS Modifieds were part of the inaugural Missouri Summer Classic at Electric City Speedway in Butler, Missouri. Mullens was strong throughout the evening at the 1/3-mile track. He first set the overall quickest time in qualifying aboard his No. 02 Modified, then won his heat race from the pole. He rolled off sixth to begin the 35-lap, $3,000-to-win feature and took over the top spot from Rodney Sanders with seven circuits remaining. He won by 2.673 seconds over Sanders, with Trevor Hughes rounding out the podium. Gary Christian finished fourth and Tyler Davis claimed the fifth spot. Mullens was awarded the Swift Springs Move of the Race for his efforts.
Friday saw the USMTS schedule shift to Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri, for a $5,000-to-win program that attracted 24 Modified teams. Mullens was quick from the jump for the second night in a row. At the quarter-mile oval, he again set the best overall time in qualifying. He finished as runner-up in his heat and started second in the 40-lap A-Main. He led every lap en route to a 2.521-second margin of victory over Jim Chisholm. Kyle Strickler, Sanders and Hughes completed the top five.
The final stop of the three-day swing brought 21 USMTS competitors to Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri, for the 10th annual Mid-America Nationals. Mullens was third in qualifying at the 3/8-mile speed plant, but blew his engine in his heat race, relegating him to a seventh-place result. His crew pulled out the backup car for the $5,000-to-win feature, meaning Mullens had to start near the rear of the field. He advanced 13 positions in the 40-lap race and finished sixth, earning the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger award.
Mullens remains second in the Summit USMTS National Championship standings, 119 points behind Rodney Sanders.
