Larry Wight Charges to Brewerton Speedway Modified Win
By Dave Medler
Still No Repeat Modified Feature Winner In 2025
BREWERTON, NY (July 25, 2025) – Sometimes in life change is good. For Larry Wight Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway that change paid off immediately with a trip to victory lane for the first time this season in the 35-Lap Tracey Road DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature.
Early this week Larry and crew made a trip to Canada to pick up a never raced 2021 Bicknell. When they got back to the race shop, they hit the ground running, getting the car race ready by Friday night.
In the feature Wight would battle in the top five on the fast and multi-groove surface moving into second just before halfway. Once in second he would battle leader Matt Caprara making the winning pass on lap twenty-four and from there would out distance Tim Sears Jr. in the final laps.
Other winners on Bayberry Automotive and Jammer’s Sports Bar & Restaurant Night.
• Ryan Barrett won his first ever DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature.
• Mike Mullen backed up his biggest career win on July 11 going to victory lane for his second straight win in the AmeriCU Credit Union IMCA/STARS Mod Lites.
• Nate Powers came into Friday night Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stock feature with a Xtreme Auto Recovery $250 bounty on his head for anyone who could stop his win streak. Powers was not going to be denied as drove to his fifth straight win that included $500 bonus from Xtreme Auto Recovery to keep his streak going.
Jeff Taylor and Matt Smith would pace the 35-Lap Modified feature to the green with Taylor grabbing the early advantage.
After a couple early yellows, the race pace settled in, Taylor and Matt Caprara on lap 10 were in tight fight for the lead with Todd Root, Darren Smith and Larry Wight raced for position while keeping the lead battle within striking distance.
After a quick yellow on lap 11 would see Caprara get a great restart driving into the lead.
Lap 15 would see Caprara on cruise control building an almost two-second lead over Taylor, Wight, Smith, and Sears just before a yellow.
When the race went back to green, Wight would move into second and set his sights on Caprara.
At the halfway point Caprara was cruising on the top side with Wight closing as he raced the top in one and two, and the bottom in three and four.
Matt Caprara and Larry Wight were in a two-car fight for the lead when Wight would drive into the lead making the winning pass using the bottom of three and four on lap 24. From there he would outdistance Tim Sears Jr. for his first win of the season. Matt Caprara, Darren Smith, and Jeff Taylor finished third through fifth.
Ryan Barrett and Brian Harber would set the pace in the 25-Lap Sportsman feature with Barrett bolting out to the early lead.
On lap 10 Barrett was on cruise control out front with a two-second lead as Harber, Mike Button, Brett Sears, and Savannah Laflair raced in the top five.
With 10 laps to go Barrett still maintained his big lead. Button, Harber, Sears and Laflair still raced for the top five spots.
Over the final laps and no yellows to slow down the field, Ryan Barrett hit his marks and cruised under the checkers for his first career Brewerton Speedway win. Mike Button, Brett Sears, Owen Bird, and Cody Manitta completed the top five.
Mike Mullen would drive out to the lead in the 20-Lap Mod Lite feature setting a quick pace.
A yellow on lap 4 would erase Mullen’s two second lead setting up Mullen, Joe Garafolo, Roger Olschewske, Joe Isabell, and Tom Mackey for the restart.
At the halfway point Mullen still showed the way out front with Olschewske, points leader Isabell, Garafolo and Mackey were still racing hard for top five spots just before a yellow.
The rest of the feature would go caution free with Mike Mullen going unchallenged for his second straight Mod Lite win. Roger Olschewske, Joe Isabell, Tom Mackey, and Jacob Dupra finished second through fifth.
Coming into Friday Nate Powers won four straight Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stock features prompting Xtreme Auto Recovery to put up a $250 bounty to anyone who could stop Powers win streak.
In the 15-Lap feature Dylan Burdick and Zak Petrie led laps while Powers was working his way to the front from his sixteenth starting spot.
On lap 10 Nate Powers made the winning pass for his fifth straight feature win and with it a $500 bonus from Xtreme Auto Recovery for continuing his hot win streak. Division points leader Chris Bonoffski, Jack Taskey, Zak Petrie, and Dylan Burdick completed the top five.
