Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 5, 2021) – Jason Sides got stronger each night during the Independence Day Spectacular at Cedar Lake Speedway, where he captured his first top-five finish since 2019.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader was fruitful for Sides, who qualified sixth quickest and placed fourth in a heat race before rallying from 12th to fifth in the A Main.

“We were tight both nights in the beginning of the race,” he said. “As the track slowed down we maintained our speed. When people started slowing down we worked our way through the field. There was rubber up top and everybody’s tires were worn out. I never got off the bottom and on a late restart we knew they were going to stay in the rubber. By that time the car had freed up where I could rip around the bottom.”

It was Sides’ first top five with the World of Outlaws since July 8, 2017.

“It’s like a win for us,” he said. “The last couple of years we’ve struggled here and there. Top 10s are big achievements. A top five is like a win for us. I hope there’s a few more.

“I’ve got Scotty Males with me. He worked for me in 2004 and half of 2005 and helped off and on throughout the years. We’re working well together.”

Saturday showcased another charge at the end of the night. After qualifying 17th quickest and finishing where he started – sixth – in a heat race, Sides maneuvered from 17th to 11th in the A Main.

“Early in the night the track was a lot better,” he said. “It didn’t dry out as quick as the second night. That hampered us a little bit. It did start slowing down, but not quite as much. There were a lot more people on the bottom the second night and the top didn’t go away as quick. We got to 10th at one point on the back straightaway, but Spencer Bayston got back by me and then Jacob Allen in the last lap or two.”

Next up is a trip to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., for the Badger 40 this Saturday. Sides finished 10th at the track last year.

“Wilmot is a fun little track,” he said. “It’s kind of flat and more beneficial to us than it would be the stomp and steers because there’s not much of a top. I’ve always liked it.”
