Wilson Rallies During Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s

Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2019) – Greg Wilson knocked the cobwebs off last weekend during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s following a busy offseason.

It marked the first time since 2015 Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team tackled the event at East Bay Raceway Park.

“We’ve changed a lot of stuff over the winter so the first couple of nights it was figuring out what we needed to do,” he said. “I felt like we had a pretty decent car on Saturday and we had plenty of speed. It was good to get down there and knock the rust off. Plus, we had people from Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics and Maverick Portables down there. It was pretty cool to have them all there with us.”

The three-day spectacle was also a rare 360ci winged sprint car event for Wilson, who spent the previous three seasons competing full time in a 410ci winged sprint car on the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

Wilson learned throughout the two preliminary nights before posting his best outing of the event on Saturday. He advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race before winning a B Main to lock into the 40-lap A Main.

“We made some headway,” he said. “We were in the show and passed some cars. We found out after the race we had one mechanical issue we needed to address. We were so bad the first couple of nights it was frustrating. We threw some different stuff at it on Saturday and it made a difference. In racing you’re looking for a direction. Mission accomplished. A piece of mind is we improved pretty drastically from Thursday to Friday to Saturday.”

Wilson gained several positions during Saturday’s main event before ending 15th out of more than 50 drivers who raced throughout the weekend.

“East Bay is a tough track,” he noted. “Throughout the years if you unload and you’re good you’re usually good the whole weekend. If you struggle early you usually struggle the whole time. The track is pretty sandy, but damp. It was nice to figure some stuff out and get headed in the right direction. I can’t wait to get racing again to keep improving.”

Action resumes this Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and Saturday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, for the East Texas LoneStar Shootout with the World of Outlaws. Wilson has one career start with the Outlaws at each track.
