Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Kan. (June 11, 2019) – Jordon Mallett took a huge leap forward last week during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.

Mallett captured his first top five of the season with the series before backing it up by scoring his first career podium finish. The strong results guided him to a sixth-place outing in the Speedweek standings.

“It’s been a step-by-step process this season of learning who you can race and how aggressive you can be,” he said. “We’ve been clicking away. A top five was a hurdle I was getting impatient at getting around. We knew it was going to take some luck and a good draw so we could do some passing early on. The other hurdle was finally making it on the podium. I’m pretty pleased where we’re at now.”

Speedweek began a week ago Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where Mallett finished seventh in a heat race before he won the B Main. He capped the night by advancing from 17th to 11th in the A Main.

“In our eyes we were pretty far off in the heat,” he said. “I wasn’t very comfortable. We had to make a few changes and it was so hard to pass in the heat that it piled on it. We had a really good car for the B Main and that set us up for the feature. We knew we needed to be good every lap and had to get up there quick. The track was heavy all night from the first time we rolled onto the track to the last lap of the feature so it was a hard battle.”

Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., hosted an event on Wednesday. Mallett maneuvered from seventh to fourth place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 6 to line up sixth for the main event.

“We had a better car than fourth, but toward the end it got where it was locked down around the rim,” he said. “We made the best of it and didn’t make mistakes and finished fourth for our first top five with the ASCS National Tour.”

Following a rainout on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., Speedweek wrapped up on Saturday at Salina Speedway. Mallett hustled from sixth to fourth in a heat race. That narrowly missed a spot into the feature redraw and lined him up ninth for the main event.

“That place was a little different,” he said. “I was hoping to make the redraw, but it just didn’t work out. We started ninth and knew what we needed to do. We were a little slow getting going, but halfway through the car was starting to wake up and come on pretty good. It was a matter of picking our way through the field. The biggest hurdle was lapped cars on restarts. There was one time we had six or seven lapped cars between us. It took us a few laps to get to the cars we were chasing. I think we had better than a third-place car, but couldn’t get into position to get further up. I was glad to get that podium out of the way though.”

Mallett’s charge to a third-place outing also earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

He and the series head to Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D., this Friday and Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D., on Saturday.
