Garrett Smith pockets $10,053 in Rebel Yell victory at Screven Motor Speedway
Riding some momentum into the second week of the mini-tour, Garrett Smith unloaded his G-Style Transport No. 10 machine at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) to kick off the second week of the Southern Nationals Series.
Garrett started on the front-row of the Scott Sexton Memorial and finished just outside the Top-5 in sixth. The following night, Smith improved and found himself with a podium showing at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) behind Cory Hedgecock and Chris Madden.
Heading into Georgia for the next three events, Smith rolled to another sixth-place finish at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway before recording a 19th-place finish at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway on Friday.
Looking to rebound on Saturday evening, Garrett laid down the quickest lap in his qualifying and picked up a heat race victory which put him on the pole for the 53-lap main event. With $10,053 on the line, Smith led wire-to-wire at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Ga.) and held off Zack Mitchell to secure his first-career triumph with the Southern Nationals.
Garrett is now just eight points behind Jimmy Owens in the point standings.
