Macon Speedway Preparing For 2016 Season

After a successful 70th anniversary season, Macon IL Speedway is already looking ahead to 2016.  Work has been ongoing at the track to winterize in addition to a couple of additional projects to prepare for 2016.

One new project that officials have been working on is a pond at the backside of the pit area.  The pond will be used to provide water for the track and the pit access roads.  The speedway has previously used city water but the addition of the pond should make the track more self sufficient when it comes to the water supply.

In other dirt work, longtime track owner, Bob Sargent, has spent plenty of time over the last month fine tuning the track surface.  Sargent added plenty of dirt to replenish what has been lost over time.  The surface has been graded and packed and is ready for the new season.

The 2016 campaign is tentatively set to take the green flag for the season opener on Saturday, April 16, with open practices scheduled during the previous two weekends.  The track's regular divisions will include Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Mods, and Hornets.  The schedule will also see more events for the Sportsman class as well as several events for the newly created Division II Midgets.  Super Late Models and Micros will also make appearances in addition to a number of travelling classes including the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Models, MOWA, and POWRi.
