Saturday, June 25th at Thunderbird Raceway opened up with the uncertainty of getting the show in due to rain in the forecast and pop-up showers occurring. However, the crew worked hard at getting the track in racing condition and we were presented with great track conditions and a fast racing surface for the Sunshine RV Warrior Allstar Performance Challenge Series night.
One of the best races you will see all year happened in the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort UMP Super Late Model Feature. Andy Sprague dominated most of the Race until Matthew Sprague was finally able to get a better restart on one of the late cautions to take over the top spot after laying down the fastest laps in 2nd place chasing Andy. We would also see Rich Neiser have to start dead last, after mechanical issues in heat races, and work his way through the field. 1st-Matthew Sprague 2nd-Rich Neiser 3rd- "Da Bull" Nick Kurtz 4th-Kevin Juusola 5th-Scott Wenell. Heats were won by Andy Sprague and Shawn Reed. Fast Qualifier Matthew Sprague with a 13.085.
The BMR Motorsports IMCA Modified feature was action-packed with great passing all the way through the field. Two of the very best open-wheel drivers in Michigan would battle for the win with another hard charger performance by the 17-year-old, Casey Smith, coming from last after an accident in the heat race hurt his starting position. 1st-AJ Ward 2nd-Jacob Poel 3rd-Casey Smith 4th-Mike Epplett 5th-Kevin Cavanaugh. Heats were won by Epplett and Poel.
Always a class that is ready to put on a show, the Lakeshore Chrysler Factory Stocks, did not disappoint. Tons of racing action, and, at times, even 4 wide through the corners all the way through the field. After a week off last week for the Factory Stocks, we would see a veteran get back-to-back Feature wins for his first time this season. 1st-Derek Poland 2nd-Mike Wilburn 3rd-Chad Weinrick 4th-Travis Haynes 5th-Logan Gilmore. Picking up heat wins were Roger Brooks, Weinrick, and Paul Namey.
The fast racing surface provided great action for the fans all night long and, the House Of Hobbies Cyber Stock Feature race was no exception. There were battles for position all over the track the whole race and the top 5 finishers were a list of some of the best Cyber Stock drivers we have to offer. 1st-Mike Currier 2nd-Estevan Martinez 3rd- Anthony Wood 4th-Ryan Hamm 5th-Josh Short. Heat race winners were Wood and Currier.
The main attraction of the night was our Allstar Performance Challenge Series race for the Sunshine RV Warriors. And, once again, fast-paced action all race long was provided to the fans because of a very fast racing surface. This week's winner would break up the stranglehold that Martinez and Tichelaar have had on the division this season, with, ironically, Martinez being beat by his own loaned-out car. But, not for a lack of trying as he was all over the leader's bumper trying to set up a pass lap after lap. Hamm is just a veteran Wheelman who knows how to make his car as wide, and as hard to pass, as possible. 1st-Ryan Hamm 2nd-Estevan Martinez 3rd-Mike Currier 4th-Cam Hendrickson 5th-Trevor Chesebro. Heat races went to Martinez, Currier, and Robert Whisler.
Unrestricted Mini Wedges (ages 10-14) put on a great show. The boys gave chase, but, had nothing for our Feature winning young lady this week. 1st-Audee Proctor 2nd-Dallyn Ellis 3rd- Karter Juusola. The heat winners were Ellis and Racer Smith.
Restricted Mini Wedges (age 6-9) had a few cars having mechanical issues but ultimately getting to race. The youngest kiddos definitely wowed the crowd. 1st-Brayden Sloan 2nd-Elleighanya Sheren 3rd-Josh Pearson. Heat races were won by Sheren and Nevaeh Davidson.
Congratulations to all of our winners and we look forward to seeing you all next Saturday Night for Independence Day Weekend racing!!
