Jason Hughes notches first win of 2018 in USRA Fall Classic

By Ben Shelton (Westville, OK) -- Jason Hughes banked a $5,000 payday over the weekend in his Henryetta Ford #12 Murphrey Oil Company/ Red Tail Tackle/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified.

The victory was his first of the season and came at Oklahoma Tri State Speedway during the second annual USRA Modified Fall Classic.

“It feels kind of weird to be getting our first win of the season in September, but we just haven’t raced a whole lot this year. When we have raced we’ve been good, but just have come up short of wins,” Hughes said. “We were able to put it altogether on Saturday night. Now, I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of Shannon Scott’s Super Late Model this weekend at Eldora. I’ve only raced there once before and we were pretty good.”

On Friday evening Jason Hughes invaded Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Oklahoma) for the opening round of the second annual USRA Modified Fall Classic. In a field of 32 Open Wheel Modifieds, Jason passed three cars in his heat race to pick up the 10-lap victory.

Earning the second-starting position for the main event on Saturday night, Hughes slipped past race-leader Tyler Wolff early and held the top spot for the remaining distance to register his first win of the season and a $5,000 payday.

Wolff, Chad Wheeler, Trevor Latham, and Tate Cole completed the Top-5 finishers in the 35-lap affair.
