Helms Caps Career With Top-10 Outing at Bob Hampshire Classic

Inside Line Promotions – WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (Oct. 16, 2019) – Caleb Helms is at peace with his recent decision to retire from actively pursuing racing opportunities.
Helms made the final start of his career in his family owned sprint car last Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park, where he captured a top-10 finish during the 2nd annual Bob Hampshire Classic.
“I’m so invested into our family as well as our family company,” he said. “I don’t want to race if I’m not committed to it and I don’t have the time to invest in it. I’m happy with the decision.”
A leak in the power steering line hampered Helms early on Saturday as he qualified sixth quickest in his group. A charge from sixth to third in a heat race locked him into the 13th starting position for the main event.
“We got to 11th pretty quick and then someone fell out so we finished 10th,” he said. “There wasn’t a lot of passing. We were a little too tight for the feature and couldn’t rotate as good as we needed to. We had a good car and were rolling pretty good, especially after just putting that car back together.
“I had fun and enjoyed it. We were racing and competitive. I was satisfied with running that night like it was my last night. We raced really hard to get into the feature and were racing side by side with people. That was my favorite part, racing close and hard and moving forward.”
