AARON FELLOWS WINS DEAN SMITH MEMORIAL FRIDAY AT CLAREMONT
Claremont Motorsports Park Friday, August 1, event story

CLAREMONT, N.H. - Make it number four. Super star Aaron Fellows has roared to hundreds of feature race victories during his nearly-three decade career at Claremont Motorsports Park. Few, if any, mean more to him that the four times he’s won his uncle’s annual memorial race.
Friday, at the historic third-mile oval, the Croydon ace led all the way in the night’s 52-lap Dean Smith Memorial Late Model main event, piling up a windfall of sponsored lap money, as he scored his fourth Smith Memorial victory.
Other winners on the night at the Thrasher Road speedplant included Thetford, VT master blaster Brandon Gray, victorious in the Super Street feature, Ridge Runner Carlos Grenier, who kept his 2025 undefeated streak intact, Kyle Kenny, who romped to victory in the Pure Stocks, and Six Shooter speedster Michael Yeaton, who scored his first CMP win of the summer
Drake Nelson, always among those favored to win, topped the nightcap 50-lap Enduro, and eight-year-old Liam Sheldon, weighing in at barely more than 50 pounds, was victorious in a special CMP Karting Series Novice Champs 20-lapper.
Craig Smith, the son of main event namesake Dean Smith, sat on the pole as the Smith Memorial went green. Alongside him sat his cousin, the Superman, Aaron Fellows. While this one would be all Fellows, a determined Smith would not give up.
The key moment in this one occurred on lap 36 when Smith and Stephen Donahue, battling for second, tangled in turn four, sending both around and moving calm and steady Bay State hot shoe Justin Littlewood up to second.
Smith would fight his way back to third, winning a hard-earned trophy on his dad’s night, joining Fellows and Littlewood in victory lane at the conclusion of the night’s main event. Donahue got back up for fourth.
The RE Hinkley Fuels Super Streets always put on a great show at CMP and Friday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Night feature was no different.
Travis Sykes was the early leader, with Robbie Streeter taking charge on lap four. It was quickly obvious that one of three drivers would win the 25-lapper; Streeter, points leader Cody Schoolcraft, or high-flying Brandon Gray, aboard the other Streeter Construction entry, each a previous 2025 feature winner.
Gray looked high and low, finally clawing his way to the front on lap 17 as he took the high line past his car owner to take the lead and then pull away. Streeter held strong for second, while Schoolcraft’s third-place finish kept him atop the point’s parade.
Carter Conroy started up front in the Lavalley’s Building Supply Pure Stock feature and quickly pulled away, opening a huge lead until a lap-15 caution again brought the field to his door. Kyle Kenny, who’d fired from row four, took full advantage of the opportunity, blasting to the front on the restart and sailing off to win by a country mile.
With Kenny easily scoring his second CMP win of the summer, rocketman Jimmy Zellman got up for second, and points leader Colton Hull did himself well in third. Conroy’s promising night ended behind the wall in the pits.
MIchael Yeaton, the king of Monadnock’s Six Shooters, proved the bigger distance around the CMP third-mile was equally comfortable Friday night, taking the lead early, he soared off into another time zone to score his first win of the year at the Thrasher Road oval. CMP’s kingpin Miller duo joined him on trophy row, with Steve Jr. second and his dad third.
And in the JP’s Trucking Ridge Runners, the rest of the field will have to wait another week for a shot at the bounty up for grabs to anyone who can stop Carlos Grenier’s bid for an undefeated season.
Friday, Grenier took the lead from Ron Burgess Jr. on lap ten and then blasted off to remain perfect on the summer. Burgess, strong and steady all race, was a season-best in second, and Mainiac Seth Drown, back from a two-event hiatus, came home third.
Drake Nelson has scored many wins in CMP Enduro events in recent years. Friday’s Nelson outcome looked in serious doubt, as weekly racing series regular JD Stockwell charged quickly to the lead. His night, though, would end pitside, and Nelson celebrated again as he won the wild-and-wooly 50-lapper.
Gage Dillingham was second in the nightcap Enduro, with Keegan Tabor third, Nick Woodside fourth, an Freddie Rogers fifth.
The junior karting event, a series of races that will spawn future Ted Christophers, a new generation of Aaron Fellows’ and Punky Carons, was won Friday by diminutive Liam Sheldon. Grayson Davidson impressed in second, and Eli Patnode earned the third-place hardware.
Claremont Motorsports Park returns to action next Friday, August 8, when the Asetex Tire and Auto 604 Modifieds are back in action atop a full card of events. Post time at CMP is 7p.m. every Friday.
