Inside Line Promotions – OHSWEKEN, Ontario, Canada (July 26, 2017) – Jason Sides has spent most of the last week trying to dodge rain drops as wet weather postponed two of the five World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races in the Northeast.

“You’re expecting to race and in the middle of the summer it shouldn’t be raining,” he said. “It is frustrating, although you enjoy a rainout every now and again when you have four or five races in a row.”

Sides said his struggles in qualifying hampered his recent results, beginning a week ago Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. Sides timed in ninth quickest in his group before he advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race. He then ended 14th after starting the main event on the outside of the fifth row.

Sides again qualified ninth quickest in a group three nights later as the Summer Nationals kicked off at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. He advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race and from 14th to 12th place in the main event.

“When you put yourself in that position of not qualifying well you get what you can the rest of the night,” he said. “It’s so tough to pass these days and when you’re starting midpack or in the back it’s really hard to make your way to the front.”

Sides improved his qualifying result on Saturday during the Summer Nationals finale at Williams Grove Speedway. He qualified third quickest in his group, placed second in a heat race and ended seventh in the dash to start the $20,000-to-win main event seventh.

“We made some changes and got it better,” he said. “We were looking forward to the feature and of course the rain came.”

Rain hammered the area just before the A Main started and postponed the main event until September.

Sides then made the seven-hour trip to Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville, N.Y., for The Big “R” Outlaw Shootout on Sunday, but weather intervened and postponed the show until October.

The weather improved for the Arrow Express Six Nations Showdown on Tuesday at Ohsweken Speedway. Unfortunately, Sides qualified ninth quickest in his group again. He finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race to make the main event.

“It was one of the slickest times we’ve seen that track,” he said. “It was like driving on ice. It would have helped if it took rubber about 20 laps earlier. That’s how tough it was.”

Sides ended with a 21st-place result.

He is slated to compete this Friday at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich., for the Battle of Michigan and Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., for the Badger 40 with the World of Outlaws.
