Covington Rallies For 11th And 10th Place Finishes Over The Weekend

Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (November 12, 2014) Matt Covington had a pair of solid finishes this past Friday and Saturday night. Covington picked up a 11th place finish at El Paso Speedway Park on Friday night along with a 10th place finish at Southern New Mexico Speedway on Saturday after B Main appearances both nights with the ASCS National Tour.

On Friday night Matt and the team took on the El Paso Speedway Park in Texas.

After a deep heat race draw, Covington would only be able to manage a 6th place finish from the rear of the field in the heat.

The sixth place finish in the heat would line Covington up in the fifth starting position for the B Feature.

The B Main would not be kind to Matt after and ill handling car resulted in a 7th place finish, which forced Covington to use a provisional to start the night’s A Main.

With the A Main underway, Matt would find himself fighting hard, dicing it up trying to slice his way through the field from the 24th starting position. Once Covington worked into 15th he would then set his sights on the top-10. As the field started racing into lap traffic, Matt would start to capitalize and gain ground working to crack the top-10. With the laps starting to wind down, Covington would work up to the back of the tenth place car, stalking him trying to find a way around. As the checkers fell, Matt would ultimately have to settle for a 1th place finishing position in his T&L Foundry/ Factor 1 Racing machine in the feature after starting from the rear.

With a strong charge and finish in the books from Friday, Covington and the team made the trip to Southern New Mexico Speedway on Saturday.

After a decent pill draw, Matt would find himself lining up in the second row for the heat. With a good handling car, Covington fought hard racing with the leaders, but would be forced to settle for fourth finishing position.

The fourth place finish in the stacked heat would force Covington into the B Main for the second night in a row.

With the solid 3rd place finish in the B, Matt would advance into the night’s main event.

At the drop of the green, Covington would find himself battling his way towards the front from 19th. Matt would battle his way inside the top-15 midway into the feature. With the track being tacky, fast, and rough, Covington would cowboy up and work the high side to continue to pass cars. While racing side by side with the tenth place car, Covington would eventually be able to muscle by on the high side as the feature came to a close. When the checkers flew Covington had ultimately rallied his Triple X/ A-Rock Materials mount from the 19th position to 10th and bring home the KSE Hard Charger award for the night.

“This past weekend was a solid weekend for us,” stated Covington. “On Friday we had a bad pill draw that set us up for a long night and a trip into the B Main. We were still able to rebound though after using a provisional and drive from the back to almost get a top-10 and end up 11th. I honestly think if I wouldn't have made those couple mistakes in the heat and B with the setup and driving, we could have started farther up in the A and had a shot at top-5. Then on Saturday night we had speed all night long. We had a tuff heat and without advancing and getting needed passing points, we had to run the B Main. We got out of the B and made some good adjustments for the A. We was then able to drive into the top-10 from 19th and salvage a good run for the second night in a row. We had some bad luck and missed setups early both nights, but honestly we made progress with the car late in the evening and rallied for some strong finishes during the weekend. To me that’s always a plus and a good learning experience for the future. We will head to Somerton, AZ this weekend and see if we can’t win and close out the year on a very positive note to carry into next year.”

Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank his partners who made this win possible: T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, A-Rock Materials, Winters, Brodix, C.G.
