Brandon Sheppard Finishes Second in 15th Silver Dollar Nationals at Huset’s
Prairie Dirt Classic Weekend at Fairbury Speedway Awaits
SHINNSTON, W.Va. (07/21/25) – Brandon Sheppard wrapped up a demanding week across the Midwest with a runner-up finish in the 15th annual Silver Dollar Nationals at Huset’s Speedway, piloting the Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Rocket1 Racing / Ace Metal Works Rocket Chassis Super Late Model.
Saturday night’s 80-lap finale was cut short by rain with 13 laps remaining, marking Sheppard’s third runner-up result of the week. The Illinois native also finished second in Friday’s preliminary feature and in Tuesday’s thrilling Kosiski Family 53 at Iowa’s Shelby County Speedway.
“I don’t know if we would have gone back to green, it would have changed anything,” Sheppard said after Saturday’s rain-shortened finale. “Hudson was really good, and we all know how important it is to get out front at this place; especially because you can build momentum so well here, it makes it really hard to pass the leader for sure. So, congrats to him (O’Neal), congrats to Bobby, and thanks to all of the fans for sticking it out tonight. It was a solid weekend for us; we definitely wanted to win, but overall it was a good weekend. We’re not going to hang our heads — we’ve got a fast race car, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the year.”
The Rocket1 Racing team’s week began Tuesday at Shelby County Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Kosiski Family 53. Advancing into the $25,053-to-win main event with a third-place finish in his heat, Sheppard found speed on the bottom, slipping past Ricky Thornton Jr. for second on lap 42. He went on to finish runner-up, 1.249 seconds behind Bobby Pierce.
As the 15th annual Silver Dollar Nationals kicked off Thursday at Huset’s Speedway, Sheppard started with a 12th-place finish in the opener before rebounding with a runner-up effort in Friday’s preliminary.
On Saturday, Sheppard outdueled Tyler Erb in his heat to claim an eight-lap victory, then ran second in the $75,000-to-win feature when a late rain shower forced officials to call the race 13 laps early. He joined winner Hudson O’Neal and Bobby Pierce on the podium.
Brandon remains in sixth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
