Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 31, 2019) – Trey Starks maneuvered to a career-best 410ci winged sprint car result at Jackson Motorplex last Friday to open a three-race weekend with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver qualified 14th quickest overall and fifth in his group to narrowly miss the heat race inversion. Starks gained a pair of positions during the heat race to finish third, which locked him into the 11th starting spot in the A Main.

“We were very competitive and had a really fast car,” he said. “I thought we had a top-five car and possibly a car to win. We got into a couple of mishaps in the feature that hurt our forward progress, but starting 11th and moving through the field was pretty good.”

Starks finished sixth, which marked his best result of the season in a 410 sprint car.

The team ventured to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday. Unfortunately, qualifying put Starks behind the eight ball. He timed in 33rd quickest overall and sixth in his group. A seventh-place run in a heat race relegated him to the B Main. Starks capped his night by charging from 15th to sixth in the consolation race, only two positions shy of earning a transfer into the main event.

“We pulled a new car out and were chasing it all night,” he said. “It didn’t react how we thought and we ended up being behind so it was a handful all night.”

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with Starks being the fastest driver during hot laps at 34 Raceway. However, he was unable to log a qualifying lap and that buried him in the format. He rallied from eighth to sixth place in a heat race, which was one spot out of making the A Main. A crash in the B Main ended his night early.

“We were super fast in hot laps,” he said. “We couldn’t tame the car. It wasn’t happy through the holes. I took a pretty hard bounce in qualifying and ended up on the lid. We got it rebuild and went from last to sixth in the heat race. We had to run the B Main and on the opening lap I hit a rut and bounced off the track.”

Starks is scheduled to compete at Knoxville Raceway this Thursday and Saturday during the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank and Sunday during the 8th annual Bell Helmets Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank.

“The last time we ran a 360 at Knoxville we had a good run,” he said. “I’m pretty confident in our ability with that car. We need to put all the pieces together. It’s all about qualifying well and then we’ll need to pass some cars.”
