Starks Aiming for First Win of Season This Weekend During First Visit to Cottage Grove Since 2017

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 12, 2021) – Trey Starks is heading to one of his favorite tracks this weekend when the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek wraps up with a doubleheader at Cottage Grove Speedway.
The two-day show on Friday and Saturday marks the first time since April 2017 that Starks will compete at the high-banked oval in Cottage Grove, Ore.
“I’m definitely excited to get back there,” he said. “It’s one of my favorite tracks to race on and we haven’t been there in a long time. The last time we were there in our car we were really fast. It should be a really good race. There’s decent money on the line and there should be a good car count.”
Starks enters the race with 10 top-10 finishes in 11 races this season, including a top 10 last Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway where he drove for Doug Rutz.
Starks set quick time during qualifying and advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race. He lined up on the pole of the main event.
“We didn’t get the jump on the start and were running second,” he said. “There was a caution around Lap 5. On the restart I threw a slider on the leader. They had watered the track before a stock car feature. Those guys never worked in the top. Once I got a little over the cushion it turned to straight grease. It just four-tire slid right into the wall and we were done.”
Starks was credited with a seventh-place result despite the DNF.
