In the Family

Ray Parent and the Amtrol Racing Team are excited to welcome back associate sponsor R.L. Caron Construction to the 17RI machine. The owner Bob Caron is not only a longtime friend but the uncle of Ray Parent. "Uncle Bob" as he’s known to the family grew up piloting a NASCAR Modified around New England in the mid 80's with Ray’s father Rene “The Cap” Parent.

Caron competed in the #32 Chuck E. Cheese Sponsored Modified as he spent his time away from the track building the iconic children's Restaurants with his company.

On the track he raced against the best in NASCAR history; including 2012 Hall of Fame inductee Ritchie Evans; former champion Bugs Stevens and legends such as Deke Astle, George Murray and so many more.

The Parent and Caron family have a long storied racing history that dates back to late 40's and early 50's where Bob Caron’s father Norman “NaxWax” Caron and Ray’s grandfather Rene “Cookie” Parent grew up as best friends competing at the track known as the concrete palace, Seakonk Speedway with their Ford Flathead racing machines.

That history is what led Ray Parent behind the wheel of race car; where in 1993 Bob Caron was Ray’s very first supporter. Sponsoring a yet to be built mini-stock, Caron offered up racing components to help build the car. “Bob has been there to help me in every car I've driven in some way or another, said Ray. My first car wasn't even built yet and he sent a fuel cell, seat, belts, the steering wheel and more."

Caron who even after he moved to California in 1986 continued supporting Ray’s racing program was instrumental in helping achieve a 3rd place points finish at the 2009 World Series of Racing. A weeklong event held each January at the famed New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Caron also continued his own racing career competing at multiple tracks around the West Coast in many different divisions up in-till just a few years ago.

Uncle Bob has mentioned how the American Canadian Tour or ACT Tour as it’s known “really has its ACT together.” With the ability to see live updates from select events through major Motorsports news sites such as http://www.speed51.com/ or radio coverage being aired from 3000 miles away; Bob has been kept up to speed over the last few years as events happen.

The Murrieta California resident and his R.L Caron Construction Company have committed their support for a select number of race events; all of which Bob hopes to attend himself. "I'm trying to get back to New England and make as many of the races as i can. I would really like to attend the International 500 and World Series of Racing at Thompson Speedway in October."

Parent was very happy welcoming back the long time contributor to the Teams quest for an American Canadian Tour Championship in 2013. “Bob has been there throughout my career. It’s fantastic to have him back on board. I really appreciate everything he has done for me. He's been a great influence on my career, said Parent."
