Salvaging a 13th

Ray Parent and the Amtrol Racing Team headed into a busy doubleheader weekend with the American Canadian Tour looking to continue their strong start to the 2013 campaign. Parent had recorded six straight top 10’s, 5 coming in ACT series competition.

Continuing the New Hampshire swing on the tour, the series headed to White Mountain Motorsport’s Park for round #6. Once again Mother Nature proved the victor as rain moved in as heat race action was set to get underway; postponing the event to Saturday August 10th.

Sunday morning the series headed north to complete the remaining 121 laps of the ACT Bond Auto 150 at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH; an event that was rained out itself back on June 2nd.

Parent would restart from the 9th position, as the race resumed on lap 29. Multiple early race yellows plagued the race as Parent found himself on the wrong side of one on lap 69. Running sixth Parent and Travis Sterns made contact sending the 17RI machine through the infield.

Restarting from the 20th position, Parent would battle his way back into the top 10. Running 9th on the final lap a car would spin right in front of him. That coupled with a yellow light on saw him fall to 13th in the final running order. “I never got the white flag, Parent said. The yellow light came on and I slowed down… those guys drove right past us.”

The 13th place finish marked the first time this year the Amtrol machine didn’t finish in the top 10. Parent was still able to find positives in the finish he felt could have been worse. “We were just off today… I think we had a top 7 car but when we got spun it took 20-30 laps off my tires. I battled really hard to get back through the field. It could have been worse; we could have been wrecked…”

The series takes a few weeks off before heading back to New Hampshire’s Star Speedway on July 6th; another new track for Ray and the Team. “I’ve watched a race there but never driven on it. It’s a flatter track, which certainly suits our program better than these banked ones. I’m looking forward to running there, Parent finished.”
