Sixth at the Ridge

Ray Parent and the Amtrol Racing Team made their lone visit to the state of Maine for round #11 of the American Canadian Tour. Scarborough, Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway was the site of their name-sake race, the Beech Ridge 150.

Parent and company were looking to improve on their 16th and 17th place previous finishes at the Maine oval, were well rested after a few weeks of down time to put the heartbreaking outcome of Devils Bowl behind them.

Using the +/- passing system to gain a +2 with a 3rd place finish in his heat; Parent earned the 7th starting position in the 150-lap 25-car field.

After a quick caution on lap-6 the race would run 118 straight laps; spreading out the field and making it difficult to judge how hard to run. Parent would battle from 7th to 4th over the 118-lap stretch. “When you go that long without a yellow it’s difficult to judge how hard you need to race,” Parent stated. “When the yellow came I thought the race was almost over… but we still had 30-pluse laps to go.”

When the race resumed a six car battle for the 3rd position saw some intense three and four-wide racing that would eventually bring out the final caution with 11-laps to go; setting up a wild fight to the finish. As you could throw a blanket over the top-7 running side by side, Parent would fight to a 6th place finish at the line.

“Any of the cars running 4th through 7th could have finished in any order,” Parent stated. “We were all fighting a tight condition and were basically the same speed. It came down to which lane you were in on restarts and were the lapped cars were falling.”

Parent pleased with the outcome wished he had saved some during the races long stretch of green for the end. “I just ran too hard during that long run… I used up my tires to much thinking we may not see another yellow. I’m proud of my guys for working hard… We’ll take the sixth,” Parent finished.

The Amtrol Team will head north of the border this weekend for the Riverside Can-Am 200 at the Circuit Riverside in St-Croix, Quebec. The 200-lap event will serve as the final combination race in Canada featuring both Sèrie ACT competitors and the American drivers.
