Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 25, 2020) – James Setters posted his eighth top 10 of the season in only 10 starts last Thursday at Skagit Speedway.

Setters improved throughout his season debut at the oval, ending the night with a top-10 outing to give him a top-10 finish at all four tracks he’s competed at this year.

“We were definitely happy because we were battling with people who could win,” he said. “We felt like we have speed and could have got a top five if we qualified better.”

Setters began the night by qualifying 16th quickest. It was the first time he has participated in time trials this season. He then placed fourth in a heat race to lock into the 14th starting position for the A Main.

“Qualifying didn’t go as planned,” he said. “I blew the cushion and that didn’t set me up for a good lap. In the heat I blew the first corner and slid up, but we had some good battles.

“In the main we were battling the rain. It was sprinkling when we started. We ran until a yellow happened. Then the track got soaked. They had to wait for the rain to stop, bring the track back in and finish out the race.

“I feel like it went pretty good. We had some speed and we’re happy we didn’t wreck there. The past two races we went there we wrecked so we’re happy to pull the car in in one piece.”

Setters advanced a handful of positions to place 10th.

Next up is the Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series season finale this Friday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont. Setters has won each of the five series races this season and he only needs to start the A Main to secure his second straight series championship.

“I need to be cautious in the heat race to make sure I keep the car running and don’t wreck it,” he said. “Hopefully I get a good draw for the heat. If I don’t I have to be careful and try to make it into the feature redraw. Then in the main we hope to win and keep the streak alive.”
