Kaden Honeycutt earns top-10 result in lengthy CARS Tour Throwback Classic
The prestigious zMAX CARS Tour Throwback Classic took place at Hickory Motor Speedway over the weekend, with Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) entering a pair of cars in the $30,000-to-win Pro Late Model portion of the event. The race began on Saturday evening and ended Sunday night thanks to persistent showers in Newton, North Carolina. After the lengthy delay, the team earned a top-10 finish.
In Friday night’s qualifying session at the 0.363-mile oval, Honeycutt drove BLR’s No. 47 car honoring Doug Bryson to the second-quickest time in the 28-car field. His teammate Brandon Lopez qualified 26th in the No. 1x Steve Leavitt tribute.
When the 100-lapper got underway the next evening, Honeycutt battled up front and was leading when the race was red-flagged for rain with 44 laps complete. When it finally resumed on Sunday night, Honeycutt was assessed a penalty for an unapproved adjustment and sent to the rear. He fought back to the top 10 in the final 56 circuits and finished seventh.
In the first half of the race on Saturday, Lopez was collected in a melee on the backstretch shortly before the rains came. The team worked hard to make repairs and Lopez returned when the race resumed the following night, albeit multiple laps down. He ultimately finished 21st.
