Inside Line Promotions – NEW VERNON, Ind. (June 29, 2021) – Greg Wilson earned his ninth top-five finish of the season last Saturday during his season debut behind the wheel of the Joe and Diane Seeling owned No. 97.

Following a trying 39th annual Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires for Wilson and his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed team, Wilson relished the opportunity to drive for Seeling for the first time in more than a decade.

The team headed to Twin Cities Raceway Park for a FAST on Dirt Winged 410 Sprint Cars event.

“We had a couple of scheduled weeks off with the No. w20 car to regroup to be ready for the ‘Month of Money,’” Wilson said. “I want to say thank you to the Seeling Family for the opportunity to drive their car as well as to Andy Potter for wrenching on it.

“It was so much different for me. We rode over in a vehicle with my wife driving. Me and the girls got to chill out. For the last 15 years I’ve ran my own race team so it was nice to not have as much on my plate. I was excited because I felt like it was an opportunity for me to just be a race car driver instead of having to wear all of the hats.”

Wilson qualified second quickest in his group to kick off his first winged sprint car race at the track. A fourth-place finish in a heat race lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“They have different race cars and a different motor program than I have,” he said. “As soon as we hot lapped, Andy had the car good from the get-go.

“It was a lot of fun for me to go up and be able to watch the race track and pay attention to where all the classes were running and changing lanes. The unfortunate side was the track raced narrow and it was hard to pass. You had to be pretty technical and to be honest I thought I forgot how to do that. When the race started I got by four cars right away and then picked cars off one by one, but it’d take you a little bit. You had to pick your spots to pass wisely. We got a couple of spots on restarts.”

Wilson maneuvered to a fourth-place finish.

The next planned race for Wilson is Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio, during the Jack Hewitt and Bob Hampshire Classic with the FAST on Dirt Winged 410 Sprint Cars. He will return to the Seeling No. 97 sprint car this week.

“It’s going to be kind of flexible this week,” he said. “Possibly Circle City on Thursday and somewhere on Friday and then Waynesfield for sure on Saturday.”
