Swedesboro, NJ- It seemed like a broken record on Wednesday afternoon as its been for the entire 2025 season so far. Watching the radar and praying the forecast was correct. Both Bridgeport , URC and USAC officials were hell bent on getting the night of racing in. After a 45 minute shower. The sun began to pop out and it became more evident. URC was going to race for the first time in nearly a month and a half since May 10th at Georgetown. For the second time in three races we have a first time winner as Petersburg, NJ Buddy Schweibinz, in only his second start in a 360 takes home the URC Feature Win at Bridgeport.
15 URC Sprint Cars signed in for the night. Given the forecast was a solid field of quality cars. The field would dwindle nearly immediately after the green flag dropped for the 25 lap main event. Lititz, PA Randy Wilbur was on the pole alongside Schweibinz. Wilbur’s 55w did not fire. Harding, PA Jordan Thomas, who picked up the last feature win at Georgetown, would run into the slowing Wilbur car with nowhere to go. Thomas’s 7 would spin down into South Egremont, MASS. Kyle Smith sending Smith into a yuke tire on the inner micro track that would launch the car in the air, flip and come down hard on the chassis in the field, Washington Crossing, PA Mike Thompson would also be collected in the mayhem. Thankfully all drivers would walk away. But those four cars would be done for the evening.
After getting everything cleaned up Schweibinz would assume the pole and Bernville, PA’s Hayden Miller would take over the outside pole for the second attempt. Schwebinz would get the jump on Miller. Freehold,NJ’s Ken Misner would slide Miller off of turn 2 to take the second spot. Next lap Hilltown, PA Adam Carberry would slide Miller for 4th. Up from Schweibinz would build a sizable lead on Misner. Misner would be held up by Brandon McGough to allow Schweibinz to get out to a quick half straight away lead by half way.
With 8 laps to go Schweibinz would get held up by the lap car of McGough while trying to put him a lap down. Sending Schweibinz low allowed Misner to close in momentarily until he couldn't get around McGough essentially sealing the race for Schweibinz as he led all 25 laps for his first even URC Feature win. Misner would cross second, Carberry, Miller and Mertztown PA Josh Weller rounds out the top 5.
“I usually get around this place pretty good in a 305, but we've been struggling as of late.” Schweibinz said after the race. We tested the car last Sunday and came in with some confidence. Starting up front in clean air helped a ton. I figured I could open my entry and help get around the rut in one and found some different lines to get around. It’s only my second URC start. This means alot to my crew chief Jeff Foote , who ran URC back in the day. So this is super special for everyone.
The United Racing Club is back in action with another midweek special. As we travel up to the Port Royal Speedway for our annual visit during Pennsylvania Speedweek on Wednesday July 2nd along with the 410 Sprint Cars.
