Port Royal, PA- Midweek shows usually can be hit or miss crowds. But when people are keep in the house with summer time downpours and thunderstorms.Fans are eager to break out of the house and be treated to some great racing like we were treated to at the Port Royal Speedway for The United Racing Clubs annual Juniata County trip during Pennsylvania Speedweek. Pulling double duty and after a 3rd place run in the 410 feature event. York, PA’s Chase Dietz dominated the 25 main events for his second career URC Feature win.
A pair of former URC Champions shared the front row as Hilltown,PA Adam Carberry and defending URC Champion Mertztown,PA’s Josh Weller shared the front row. Carberry would get the quick jump in to turn number one. East Berlin’s Cody Fletcher tried to take a two for one deal getting around Port Royal,PA’s Mayor Dylan Cisney, making a spot start in the McGough 669 after Brandon McGough had work commitments that would not allow him to attend, and Weller to claim the second spot. Just as Dietz was working his way around Weller. Caution would fly for debris in the middle of turn one and two.
On the restart Carberry would take the advantage again on the restart. Dietz, using something he found in the 410 main event took the highside to get a run off of turn two to get side by side with Fletcher. Dietz would complete the pass with the run he got off of the highside of turn number four to take the second spot. Dietz would take less than a lap to get to the tail tank of Carberry. Buy the time they reached the line Dietz was setting up for a slider on Carberry to take the lead. Carberry tried to turn it back in three and four but lost momentum and Dietz would get out to a over four second advantage at one point. Behind Dietz a battle for the top five was shaping up to be the best battle on the track as Sunbury’s Mark Smith, Weller, Manchester’s Logan Rumsey and Woodbine, NJ’s Buddy Schweibinz and from the 25th starting spot, Kunkletown,PA’s Ryan Smith were getting ready to have a dog fight.Feltcher started to fall back as Mark Smith started to make some headway to crack the podium. Fletcher nearly tagged the inside wall with not much room between him and Jake Gallaway to get around him and Wyatt Walizer holding on to the second spot. All this action would come to a stop as Galloway would spin in turn one bringing out the second caution of the event.
Restart would come with ten laps remaining. Fletcher would spin the tires on the restart getting tagged by Rumsey letting Mark Smith by for the third spot for the moment. Fletcher would get back around Smith to take the third spot back. Rumsey would get a run on the bottom sending it deep in to turn one to get side by side with Mark Smith. Smith would hold on to the position. Side by side battle going on for fourth and one for second as Fletcher takes the second spot away. Carberry’s car started togo away as Rumsey would blow by Carberry for the third spot. As Dietz got the two to go signal from the flag stand. Rough night for Mill Hall,PA’s Wyatt Walizer would come to a catastrophic end. After getting to the track late due to a blown tire on the tow rig. Walizer would end up getting up high in turn one and flipping end over end to bring out the red. He was uninjured in the flip.
On the restart Dietz would remain the class of the field. Dietz would win his first URC feature of 2025 and his second career win. Fletcher would hold off a charge by Rumsey at the line for second Mark Smith and Carberry rounding out the top five.
It’s a big benefit running both divisions tonight”. Dietzsaid in victory lane. “ Trying to see what we have for the 360 Nationals in Knoxville. It feels like we haven’t had time to work on these packages with the way the weathers been. But Tommy got me comfortable pretty much everywhere. Good night of testing for us and looking forward to more 360 starts. We need URC around for a long time and we want to keep them around.”
URC Will be back in action on Saturday July 19th with the return to the New Egypt Speedway for the first time in several years.
