Babb Bags Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series/DIRTcar Summernationals Win at Tri-State Speedway
HAUBSTADT, INDIANA (July 5, 2025) – The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP would return to action on Saturday and be co-sanctioned for the second consecutive season with the DIRTcar Summernationals at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN and Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL would lead all forty laps of the main on his way to a $10,000 victory.
The win by the 51 year-old Babb would be his fourth career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP victory and would be his 102nd career DIRTcar Summernationals win. Babb’s victory would come behind the wheel of a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine and Babb’s entry carries sponsorship from Petroff Towing, Dynagro Seeds, Donley Trucking, Douglas Dodge/RAM, CJI Piping and Fabrication, Getty Landscaping, and Kuebler Ultra Oil.
Shannon Babb would take the lead at the start of the forty lap, $10,000 to win main event, with Colten Burdette, Rodney Melvin, Billy Moyer, and Tyler Erb giving chase. Mark Whitener would take fifth from Erb on lap two, while Babb would set a rapid pace at the point, with the top five runners remaining the same as Babb began to lap slower traffic on lap ten. The first caution of the event would wave on lap 14 for debris in turn four. Babb would get a great restart and maintain the race lead, with Burdette in second, while Moyer and Whitener would work past Melvin for third and fourth, shuffling Melvin back to fifth. Whitener would challenge Moyer for third and would take the spot on lap sixteen, with Erb working on Melvin for fifth and reclaiming the fifth position two trips later on lap eighteen. Babb was setting an absolute blistering pace out front and began lapping slower traffic again on lap twenty-two. Babb would have an almost three lead at this point, however, Burdette would begin to reel in Babb in lapped traffic and would trim the margin to less than a half-second when the caution waved again on lap thirty-five when Kyle Hammer looped his machine in turn four. Babb would continue to lead on the restart, while Whitener would work past Burdette for second, while Erb would gain the fourth spot from Moyer. The final caution waved with just two laps remaining when Melvin would make contact with the outside retaining wall in turn two. Babb would hold off a challenge from Whitener on the restart and proceed to see the checkered flag first, with Whitener, Burdette, Erb, and Moyer completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Clay Stuckey, Dillon McCowan, Rusty Schlenk, Tyler Millwood, and Jason Feger.
The next event for the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Late Model Series Fueled by VP will be on Saturday July 12 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, OH, paying $10,000 to win. This event will be co-sanctioned with the DIRTcar Summernationals tour.
