Sooner Late Models visit Creek County Speedway Saturday

By John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (July 7, 2025) - The Hayden Ross Motorsports Foundation Sooner Late Model Series returns to action this weekend with a visit to Creek County Speedway on Saturday.

Creek County Speedway last hosted the Sooner Series in September 2023 and Joseph Gorby of Bartlesville picked up the victory over Brett Hanson of Fort Gibson and Jason Redman from Sapulpa.

Six different drivers have picked up Sooner Series victories in 2025, but it is veteran Delbert Smith of Wichita that leads the points chase despite the fact he has yet to pick up a victory this season. Close behind in second is son Daniel Smith. Steve Hewitt, Sr. of Mannford holds down third while Eric Brill from Nicoma Park and Dax Harless of Paden round out the top five.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday and grandstands at 4. Hot laps are scheduled for 7:30 with racing to follow.

This program will allow students to overcome the hurdle of entering motorsports due to the high costs and specialized experience needed to get started. This program will allow these students the opportunity to be part of a team with one overall goal of success on the track, including budgeting, marketing, mechanical skills, logistics, and team building efforts. Sooner Late Model Series
The Sooner Late Model Series was formed in 2016 by Enid Speedway co-promoter Mark Brill. Brill felt there was not many opportunities for late model competitors to race in Oklahoma and the Sooner Late Model Series was formed. Now the series has grown beyond the borders of Oklahoma with events held in the neighboring states of Kansas, Texas and Arkansas.
