(Hartford, OH)…After a “Steel Valley Thunder” event on Saturday at Sharon Speedway, it’ll be a quick turnaround as the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds will roll into the Hartford, Ohio oval on Monday night (August 11) for the $10,000 to-win “Steel Valley 75”! Also, the two-division blockbuster show will include the Hovis Auto & Truck "410" Sprint Cars racing for $4,000 to-win. The event is presented by Capital Renegade Custom Coaches and Trailers along with support from Al Heinke, Thermo Supply, Russ King Racing, King Sanitary, and King Bros. Warmups will follow motor heat for the Sprints, which is scheduled for 6:25 p.m., followed by qualifying with racing set for 7:30 p.m.
Ryan Blaney, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Champion, will participate in a “Racing into Kindness” themed Question & Answer Session part of the “Willy’s World” Kids Club presented by Millcraft Barns activities. The Q&A Session will take place behind the main grandstands in the Fan Zone from approximately 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. Blaney, who last competed at Sharon during the SRX race in 2022, will also offer insight during the broadcast of the racing program.
Prior to the Q&A Session, “Flaggin’ with Farney” will take place during the Willy’s World Kids Club Pre-Show at 5:15 p.m. Legendary Super DIRTcar Series flagman, Dave Farney, will teach kids the art of flagging, and Super DIRTcar Series flags will be handed out to children who participate.
The “Steel Valley 75” will mark the third all-time visit to Sharon by the Super DIRTcar Series, the premier traveling Big-Block Modified tour in the world. In 2016, Jimmy Phelps topped a 52-car field for $6,000 in their first race in the western Pa./eastern Ohio region since 2006. In 2017, Australian Peter Britten drove from the 20th starting spot to take the lead on lap 54 and went on to his first career SDS win, worth $6,000. Prior to the 2016 event, the last time Sharon hosted a major Big-Block Modified event that attracted the Northeast's best was back in 1983 when Alan Johnson won a CRC Super DIRT Syracuse Qualifying Series event.
Sharon was to host a Super DIRTcar event again in 2019 paying $7,500 to-win, but Mother Nature washed out the show. Monday’s event will pay $10,000 to-win easily making it the richest race in the history of Big-Block Modified racing at Sharon! Sharon has hosted 645 Big-Block Modified races all-time with 98 different winners. Thus far this season, Garrett Krummert won on June 21 and Dalton Slack won last Saturday’s “Lou Blaney Memorial” for his first career Sharon win as he took $4,100 back to Canada. The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds are also scheduled to compete on Saturday (August 9).
Defending $60,000 Super DIRTcar Series Champion, Mat Willimson, currently leads the points by 13 over eastern Pennsylvania racer Alex Yankowski. Matt Sheppard is third and leads the way with three Series victories. Alex Payne is fourth in points. Erick Rudolph, who is no stranger to Sharon with seven career victories including three “Lou Blaney Memorial” wins, is fifth in points. Sixth through 10th in points are Mike Mahaney, Felix Roy, Britten, Jack Lehner, and Anthony Perrego.
For the first time, the "410" Sprint Cars will join the card with the Super DIRTcar Series; in fact, this is the only time all season that “410s” will be part of a Super DIRTcar Series event with the exception of the “World Finals” at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in November! The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply “410” Sprints will compete in a $4,000 to-win/$400 to-start event. There will be warmups with the Sprints; however, due to time constraints and being a midweek event, there will be no group qualifying. The heat races will be lined up by a pill draw.
Sharon has completed just four "410" Sprint Car events thus far in 2025 as the World of Outlaws, Western PA Speedweek, and the Ohio Speedweek All Star Circuit of Champions events unfortunately all fell victim to Mother Nature in addition to the July 26 Bala Management "Super Series" event. A.J. Flick ended a two-and-a-half-year winless drought at Sharon winning the May 10 opener. Dale Blaney then won the next two events aboard his brother Dave’s famous red #10. And most recently, Danny Dietrich won the $13,000 “Lou Blaney Memorial” last Saturday night.
Summit Racing Equipment will present the hard charger award to the Sprint Cars. The driver that passes the most cars in the feature will receive a $100 Summit gift card. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will be the driver that finishes highest in the feature.
