Thursday Night Showdown: Short Track Super Series Invades Outlaw Speedway

DUNDEE, NY – A Thursday night “showdown” in the Finger Lakes is set for Outlaw Speedway on Thursday, July 10.

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco makes its annual stop at Tyler Siri’s wide and racy four-tenths-mile venue located just outside of Watkins Glen in Dundee, N.Y., for the ‘Dave Machuga Memorial’ Outlaw Showdown.

A healthy $7,078.78 top prize awaits the STSS Modified contingent in Round No. 3 of the HYTORC of New York North Region. The feature event is 50 laps in distance.

The STSS Modified HYTORC of New York North Region title fight is heating up following last week’s ‘Firecracker 50’ at N.Y.’s Fonda Speedway. Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., leads Matt Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y., by 24 points entering Outlaw.

Jack Lehner of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., sits third, 54 behind the leaders, with Quebec’s David Hebert and Canandaigua, N.Y.’s Alex Payne 62 and 68 points back, respectively.

Thursday’s event marks the eighth appearance by the STSS at Outlaw Speedway, the first of which took place in 2016. Friesen is the defending event winner; he also reached the Sunoco checkered flags first in ’19 and ’18. Sheppard has posted wins in ’22 and ’16.

Single event winners include Cory Costa (’23) and Steve Paine (’21).

For the Thursday event, pit gates open at 5 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. The drivers’ meeting takes place at 6 p.m. with Dirt Draft Hot Laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $30 (Adults) and $28 (Seniors). Kids 12 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $50. Kids (ages 6-12) pay $20. Children 5 and under are FREE.

After Outlaw, attention turns to N.Y.’s Afton Motorsports Park on Wednesday, July 16 for the ‘Interstate 88 Special’ featuring the STSS Modifieds in a 48-lap, $5,088-to-win HYTORC of New York North Region program plus STSS Sportsman competing for 28 laps and $1,588 to win racing for Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region points.
