Hard Hats On: 16th Annual “Working Man’s Race” at Afton Motorsports Park This Weekend
AFTON, NY – Put on those hard hats.
“The Working Man’s Race” is set for its 16th anniversary celebration this weekend – Friday-Saturday Oct. 10-11 – at Afton Motorsports Park.
The rustic fairgrounds oval located off I-88 Exit 7 roars to life with the Short Track SuperNationals, an event that was born at the speedway back in 2006.
On-track activity gets underway on Friday (Oct. 10) with the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Sportsman headlining the program in a 25-lap, $1,500-to-win non-points-paying Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region special.
STSS Modifieds will participate in practice rounds with a pair of redraw positions for Saturday’s program available to fast timers.
Also on the Friday schedule are the 600cc Modifieds and John Maynard Memorial for FWD Four Cylinders.
All gates open at 3:30 p.m. on Friday with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
Friday grandstand admission is $15 (ages 14 and up), $13 (Seniors ages 62 and up and Students ages 9-13) and Kids 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $45 (ages 14 and up), $12 (ages 5-13) and $2 (ages 0-4) for Friday.
On Saturday (Oct. 11), STSS Modifieds take part in the 50-lap, $4,000-to-win “Working Man’s Race” special, a non-points HYTORC of New York North Region event. The program boasts a total purse structure of more than $22,000 plus bonuses and special awards.
In 15 previous editions of the Short Track SuperNationals STSS Modified event, 14 different drivers have reached Victory Lane. Only Matt Sheppard won the event twice, and he will not be in attendance this weekend.
Supporting the STSS Modifieds on Saturday are Factory Stocks in the Shirley Shootout, Limited Sportsman and the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Racing Series.
A parade of race cars through the Village of Afton kicks off Saturday’s activities at noon.
All gates open at 2 p.m., with 4:30 p.m. hot laps and 5:30 p.m. racing.
Saturday grandstand admission is $25 (ages 14 and up), $20 (Seniors ages 62 and up and Students ages 9-13) and Kids 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $45 (ages 14 and up), $12 (ages 5-13) and $2 (ages 0-4) for Friday.
Weekend passes are available for both the pit and grandstand areas.
Weekend grandstand admission is $35 (ages 14 and up), $30 (Seniors ages 62 and up and Students ages 9-13) and Kids 8 and under are FREE.
Weekend pit admission is $85 (ages 14 and up), $20 (ages 5-13) and $4 (ages 0-4).
