Greenbush Race Park

Delaine, Nelson and Berger grab GRP checkers

A warm and windy day greeted racers and fans at the Greenbush Race Park as the 2023 race season winds down with only three nights and two weekends of racing remaining.

All classes struggled for car counts and the Wissota Modifieds would only send 10 cars to take the green for their feature. Rick Delaine sat on the pole and was off from the drop of the green. It was a good four car race for the second spot between Shawn Teunis, Aaron Holtan, Aaron Blacklance and Joseph Thomas. The only thing that slowed down Delaine was a late caution with four to go. With the rest of the field on his bumper, Delaine got a good restart and went on to get his second win of the year and a sweep of the evening. Thomas would finish second and Holtan third. Teunis would pick up the other heat win.

The 11 car Wissota Midwest Modified once again had trouble with cautions. Paul Veert lead the first lap and brought out the first caution as he slowed in corner two. Alex Johnson inherited the lead but Gary Nelson passed Johnson out of corner two on the restart. The final caution set up a green, white, checkered finish as Nelson held off Taylor Jacobson for his first win of the year. Aaron Blacklance finished third and won his heat with Cylan Vargason picking up the other heat win.

Only seven Wissota Streets were on hand for their feature as polesitter Terry Blacklance was the early leader. Blacklance lead the first six laps before he was passed on the frontstretch by Jerome Berger with nine to go. While Berger was in charge out in front, it was a good race for second between Blacklance, John Halvorson and Josh Barker. A late caution set up a green, white, checkered finish, but Berger had the field covered and picked up his second win of the year. Halvorson got by Blacklance for second at the line. Blacklance finished third and won the lone heat.

The Wissota Pure Stocks had seven cars take the green for their feature with Macey Anderson the early leader. Dusty Caspers would get by Anderson out of corner four with 10 to go. The only caution came one lap later. The green dropped on the restart and Caspers was never challenged for the lead as he went on to get his third win of the year and a sweep of the evening. Dave Meyer finished second and Anderson third.

Alex Truscinski would lead flag to flag to pick up his first MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprint feature win. Dexter Dvergsten finished second and got the lone heat win and Dylan Langevin was third.

Up next at the Park is the Rick Johnson Memorial for the Streets. Joining the Street will be the Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, and MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprints. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30, cutoff for the draw is 6pm with racing getting under way at 7pm sharp.
