World of Outlaws to visit I-96 Speedway again in 2016 on June 4

LAKE ODESSA, Mich. — December 10, 2015 — The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will visit I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan in 2016 on Saturday, June 4. The event in will mark the ninth year the World of Outlaws have competed at the now-three-eighths-mile, which previously was a half-mile.

This past season, Brad Sweet was victorious at I-96 Speedway for the first time in his career, winning in a thrilling duel with Donny Schatz. Steve Kinser led the early portion of the race, before Schatz, his Tony Stewart Racing teammate, took the top spot. Sweet, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing, would take the lead from Schatz with just six laps remaining, using a slidejob in turns one and two. Sweet’s win snapped Schatz five-race win streak that he was riding entering the event.

Schatz is a past winner at I-96 Speedway, taking the checkered flag for the first time in 2014. Paul McMahan, who is set to pilot the No. 7 machine for the Destiny Motorsports team in 2016, won at I-96 in 2013. Joey Saldana earned his first career World of Outlaws A-Feature win at I-96 Speedway in 1995. The series has contested 15 main events at the track over the last 20 years, with 10 drivers making their way to victory lane.

Kinser, who stepped away from full-time racing following the 2014 season, is the winningest driver in World of Outlaws competition at I-96 Speedway, having recorded four wins in his illustrious career. Jason Meyers, a two-time series champion, who also stepped away from full-time racing a few years ago, won twice at I-96 Speedway. Craig Dollansky also has two wins at the track.

Schatz, who crossed the 200-win plateau in 2015, finished the season by claiming seventh World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title. The veteran driver finished the season with 31 A-Feature wins, making him just the second driver ever to win 30 or more races in a season, joining Kinser in that department. Kinser accomplished the feat three times during his amazing career, including winning a record 46 A-Feature events in 1987.

Shane Stewart, driving for the Larson Marks Racing team, which was in their first full season on the road with the series, finished second in points, with nine A-Feature wins. Sweet wrapped up the year third in points, on the strength of five wins. Daryn Pittman followed by in fourth and Kerry Madsen rounded out the top-five. A total of 22 drivers picked up World of Outlaws win in 2015.
