Tucker Anderson Etches Name into Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series History with Sugar Creek Triumph

(BLUE RIDGE, GEORGIA) Eighteen-year-old driver Tucker Anderson, of Blairsville, Georgia, etched his name into Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series history with his win on Saturday night at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, Georgia! Tucker timed in third quickest in Group A during the VP Racing Fuels qualifying session and later started the 40-lap main event from the inside of the third row. He was patient early in the distance before turning up the wick at the halfway mark and passing leader Shawn Chastain for the point on the twenty-third circuit. From there, it was all Tucker all the time, as he led the remainder of the contest to capture his first career SAS victory and a $5,000 payday.

Finishing 3.784 seconds behind at the unfurling of the checkered flag was third starting Jamie Oliver, of nearby Murphy, North Carolina. Tennessean Jensen Ford worked his way past three competitors to round out the podium in the third spot. Kaede Loudy improved five positions to capture a solid fourth place performance, while Heath Hindman also passed five racecars to grab the final spot inside of the top five.

David Payne vaulted up to sixth at the finish and was awarded both the $500 engine bonus and the $500 tire bonus. He was the highest finishing driver on four American Racer tires and the highest finishing driver powered by a small or less horsepower engine, as defined by Package A, B, C, and D in the series rules. David utilized Engine Package B, which was a steel block, aluminum head motor.

“Yeah it took us a long time,” stated Anderson, who was coming off a strong runner-up effort with the series on Friday night at North Georgia Speedway. “I’ve been living at a racetrack since I was about 5 or 6 years old and all I’ve ever wanted was to win one of these races. I finally got to do that, so I’m pretty excited. I got to second there and just rode behind Shawn Chastain and I just knew he was killing his stuff. At North Georgia last night, I was too patient and we just had to be better tonight.”

There were 23 entrants signed into the pit area on Saturday at Sugar Creek Raceway for round nine of the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Franklin Enterprises schedule. Garrett Smith earned Fast Time honors overall during VP Racing Fuels qualifying with his quick lap of 14.354 seconds, while Casey Roberts topped Group B during the time trial session.

Those two drivers made up the front row for the 40-lap feature with Smith getting the holeshot at the drop of the green flag and leading the first six circuits of the race. Both drivers suffered flat tires that took them out of contention, which handed the point to Shawn Chastain on lap seven. Chastain then held the top spot up until lap 23 when Tucker Anderson made the winning pass.

Next up for the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presented by Franklin Enterprises will be a doubleheader over the Independence Day holiday weekend in the Volunteer State of Tennessee. A $5,000 winner’s check will be on the line on Thursday, July 3 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee, while a $4,000 payday will be paid out on Saturday, July 5 at Mountain View Raceway in Spring City, Tennessee. Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Ronnie Johnson now leads the SAS point standings heading into the month of July over Joe Denby, Dillon Tidmore, Michael Luna, and Billy Franklin.
