Racing goes most Saturday nights with six local divisions. Street Stocks, Pro Trucks, Super Stock, Super Late Model, Super Trucks and Bandoleros are the local divisions that fill each race night. Additionally there is the Western Speed Association late model series, the Super Stock Race for Kids fund raising race, Street Stock Invitational, Drifters, NASCAR Canada Series, Race-Your-Junk and the Ultimate Enduro to end the season. The 2025 season runs from May 24 to September 20.
The SSCRA has been racing since 1954. Its first home was the 8th Street Motordrome, a paved oval that served well until pushed out by residential development in 1969. The Exhibition grounds served as a temporary track in 1970 while a new home was found.
Bridge City Speedway opened in 1971, about 6 miles northeast of the city as the crow flies on land purchased from the Kusch family. No way the city would push us out again. Well, by the mid 90's the city was encroaching again and by 2000 the pressure was on to move as residences got closer. By 2003 an agreement had been reached with the city buying our land and we were on the search for home number four.
Wisdom comes with age and it was decided rather than looking for land in the directions of residential growth, look for land in the direction of industrial development.
Along came the Cory Industrial Park development bordered by highways 11 and 12, just north of the city. Construction started in 2004 with plans to open the new facility in 2007. However, construction was accelerated when we were informed we would not be able to operate the old track in 2006. Bridge City Speedway closed in September 2005 and attention became focused on getting the new track ready.
After Bridge City Speedway closed it was announced the new track would be named Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. Crews were busy in the spring of 2006 as the concrete spectator stands had not yet been poured, bleachers needed to be built, a final layer of asphalt on the track, acres and acres of site grading, along with concession and scoring buildings, state of the art track lighting, fencing, track barrier and storm management all had to be completed.
Against all odds, the new Auto Clearing Motor Speedway held its opening race on July 7, 2006 in front of a full house. We still got a full race season in with racing every Friday and Saturday through the summer and the final races right into October.
