Podium for Covington at Tri-City
CG Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (May 26th, 2021) Matt Covington had a strong podium finish last Friday night at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL with the ASCS National Tour.
After a good heat race draw, Covington capitalized to get the win from outside row one. This earned him a spot in the redraw where he pulled the number 4 pill.
With the feature underway, Matt found himself driving hard, dicing it up with the leaders. Once he worked into 2nd, he set his sights on the leader. As the race progressed, Matt was unable to advance and struggled to maintain the speed. After a bobble on the high side where he tagged the fence, Matt was shuffled back to 3rd on-corner exit. There he remained until the fall of the checkered flag.
“It was a decent weekend,” stated Covington. “We’ve been so competitive and fast lately that we’re definitely hungrier for the wins. Those top-5’s can only satisfy you for so long. A good pill draw and a rocket ship of a car for the heat race set us up well in the feature. The mistakes cost me 2nd I feel like, but I also had to fight the car towards the end. But I’m happy with balance we have right now. We enjoyed getting back to the home shop this week to get everything fresh and ready for Lake Ozarks.”
Covington has an ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway this Memorial Day weekend.
