Gray charges to fourth-place finish at Clarksville
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (June 23) — Jim Gray turned in a strong performance Saturday night at Clarksville Speedway, charging from seventh to finish fourth in the $1,000-to-win Quicksilver 602 Crate Late Model main event.
Gray was one of 13 drivers entered in the 15-lap feature. After qualifying ninth and finishing fourth in his heat race, Gray was originally slated to start from the inside of row four. However, a late arrival to the grid by Jacob Trice bumped Gray up to the inside of row three for the initial start, while Trice tagged the rear. Gray got a great jump on the opening green flag, but officials waved off the start as they continued to wait for Trice.
Trice overtook Gray for fifth midway through the feature. A caution on lap eight shuffled the field when third-starting Levi Ashby, clipped a yuke tire in turn four, collecting Trice. Despite the contact, Trice was restored to the fourth spot for the restart, with Gray lining up fifth.
Two laps after the restart, Gray passed Trice exiting turn two and held onto fourth place for the remainder of the event. Saturday's top-five marked another solid run for Gray and the No. 47 team.
