Thesenvitz Bitten By First-Lap Incident

Brandon, S.D. – In his first race since a concussion sustained during the Outlaw Nationals at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. back in October, Trey Thesenvitz showed no lasting effects of the injury while in action at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. The 17-year-old likely would have competed for the win at the third-mile South Dakota track if not for contact altering the handling on his machine.
Only eight micro sprints came out for competition – Thesenvitz mentioned several drivers moved into 305ci sprint cars and that some don’t have their cars ready to race – but that didn’t alter his mindset. After starting third in heat race action, he quickly moved his No. 53 to the lead to take the win.
The heat race had little bearing on the starting lineup of the feature, however, as the redraw moved Thesenvitz to fifth on the grid. Realizing that the window of opportunity from that position was small, he knew the start of the race would be crucial. On what Thesenvitz described as “the start of my life,” he maneuvered into the middle of a three-wide race for the lead into turn one. When the car on the outside bobbled, Thesenvitz slowed to avoid hitting the competitor. A car from behind hit his right rear tire, which caused the tire to slowly lose air and thus alter the way his Sawyer/Yamaha machine handled. Falling back to fifth, Thesenvitz began to notice the engine sounding unusual and that the fuel pressure was lower than it should be. The issues all prompted him to retreat his car from the event.
Thesenvitz would like to thank MerchLane, Speed Shack Performance, Twisted Signs and Designs, and Infinity Shocks, as well as his family, his crew chief Scuba Steve, and all of his great fans for their continued support. The No. 53 team is currently seeking sponsorship. Any inquiries regarding sponsorship can be directed to Trey Thesenvitz Racing or Redbeard Promotions.
Thesenvitz is next scheduled to compete on May 10 at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D. in the No. 53 600cc micro sprint entry.
