JASPER, Minn. – 2015 was another great season for Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, S.D.) regular Trey Thesenvitz. Two wins highlighted his campaign, and the Jasper, Minn. Native bolstered the wins with 11 top ten finishes in 16 feature starts. Looking forward to next season, Thesenvitz hopes to be piloting a full-size sprint car at Huset’s, which will come to be known as Badlands Motor Speedway in 2016.
As is true for many racers early in the season, Thesenvitz encountered a bumpy start and several rainouts. After two Huset’s DNFs to begin the year, he began to wonder if the concussion he battled throughout the winter had affected his ability behind the wheel. One week later, he put all of his self-doubt aside when he parked his No. 53 Speed Shack-powered Sawyer Chassis in the winner’s circle on June 14 when the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars were in action.
A ninth-place finish to close out June was less than Thesenvitz had hoped for, but the following weekend came more redemption. A special Friday night event over Independence Day weekend ended with Thesenvitz finishing third. The regular weekly show on Sunday again resulted in a Thesenvitz triumph. Two days later, a Tuesday night Miniakota Micro Sprint race at Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn. started well, but went south and he was relegated to 11th. A pair of Huset’s top-fives on July 19 and 26 led into the Miniakota Triple Crown series the next weekend.
Night one was on Thursday, July 30 at Rock County Speedway in Luverne, Minn. and Thesenvitz expertly guided his Twisted Signs and Designs-backed ride into a third-place finish. A repeat of that performance came the next night at Nobles County. To conclude the mini-series, he hoped for another strong finish at Huset’s for a shot at the Triple Crown championship, but a DNF dashed his chance. Three consecutive weekends without micros at Huset’s led up to a seventh-place finish on August 30.
Memorial Day weekend featured back-to-back nights of racing at Huset’s. Though taking a DNF on night one, Thesenvitz put the hammer down and rallied to a runner-up finish on Monday night. Taking eighth on September 13 concluded the season there, and rounded out a fourth-place effort in the point standings.
Yet to come was a trip to Tulsa, Okla. and Port City Raceway, hosting the 2nd Annual Outlaw Nationals. Nearly 100 of the country’s best micro sprint racers turned out for the richest micro event of the year, paying $13,000 to the winner. Though unable to make the feature race over the three-day show, his night one heat race win nearly earned him a ticket to the main event. His point total following qualifier action narrowly dropped him out of contention for a starting spot. Night two also came with a win, this time in a last chance qualifier. On the final night, a tenth-place finish in a qualifier rounded out his season.
Thesenvitz would like to thank MerchLane, Speed Shack Performance, Twisted Signs and Designs, and Infinity Shocks, as well as his family, his crew chief Scuba Steve, and all of his great fans for their continued support.
