Thesenvitz Lands Two Triple Crown Thirds

BRANDON, S.D. – After foregoing most Miniakota Micro Sprint events thus far in 2015 while chasing Huset’s Speedway points, Trey Thesenvitz took on the series’ “Triple Crown” weekend. The South Dakota native crossed into Minnesota for the opening two nights on Thursday and Friday and managed to rally to third-place finishes both nights. With Saturday night off, Huset’s wasn’t as friendly, and Thesenvitz was unable to complete the event.

18 micro sprints signed in for Thursday’s night one at Rock County Speedway in Luverne, Minn. With a new powerplant in the No. 53, Thesenvitz was ready to rip. He started fifth for his heat race, but quickly displaced three opponents to take over second place at the conclusion.

With an invert in place, Thesenvitz’s impressive heat run was negated and he would begin the main event from 12th. Most competitors preferred the low line of the speedway, but Thesenvitz put his Sawyer Chassis on the cushion and moved to fourth by the time the crossed flags were displayed. Jumping the cushion lost him two positions, but two subsequent cautions allowed him to regain the fourth position. Back to the top on the restart, Thesenvitz took over third and began to close in on the two frontrunners. Within a car length on the final circuit, he couldn’t make his move and settled for third.

Moving to Nobles County Speedway on Friday night, one less entry turned out to set the car count at 17. From fourth in his heat race, Thesenvitz precisely moved to the front of the field to take the win by nearly half a lap.

Another redraw rendered his heat race effort invalid; Thesenvitz rolled from the grid outside row four. In similar fashion to Thursday night, he rallied forward but didn’t have a shot at passing the two drivers leading the field. Again feeling that he possessed the fastest car, the scheduled distance of the race was not quite enough to take a shot at the pair. Thesenvitz again took the final step of the podium.

Sunday night’s “Triple Crown” finale at Thesenvitz’s home track, Huset’s Speedway, hosted its largest count of micros of the season, with 23 in action. Starting fourth in his heat, Thesenvitz took over third on the start but nothing more was doing throughout the six-lap race.

Thesenvitz had high hopes for the main event with an opportunity to win the championship of the three-race series. Starting in sixth, Thesenvitz battled side-by-side for the opening three laps. Soon, a competitor slid into the side of the Twisted Signs and Designs machine and wreaked havoc upon it. Knocking the carburetors loose from the engine, as well as hitting Thesenvitz’s left arm, the event was over for the 17-year-old. Without any bodily injury, Thesenvitz jokingly appraised the incident: “Impromptu monster truck rallies are part of racing sometimes.”

Thesenvitz would like to thank MerchLane, Speed Shack Performance, Twisted Signs and Designs, and Infinity Shocks, as well as his family, his crew chief Scuba Steve, and all of his great fans for their continued support.

The No. 53 team is currently seeking primary sponsorship. Any inquiries regarding sponsorship can be directed to Trey Thesenvitz Racing or Redbeard Promotions.

Thesenvitz is next scheduled to compete on August 9 at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D. in the No. 53 600cc micro sprint entry.
