Sabraski stalks Mass, steals Monte Money

The fifth event for the 2025 Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series powered by Momentum Truck Group, Freightliner, Western Star went green at the Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo, Minnesota for the second night of a four race Minnesota/South Dakota swing and saw Rice, Minnesota’s Shane Sabraski stalk race long leader Dave Mass and steal the lead with just nine laps to go to win the 40-lap feature.

An 80* sunny, beautiful night for racing and saw hometown racer Jordan Tollakson trip the qualifying clock at a 16.112 second lap to set fast time honors and earn the Hiller Auction Co. Quick Qualifying Award on the night. Shane Sabraski, Dave Mass and Jeff Provinzino topped the three qualifying heat races early in the night’s program mains to set the feature starting lineup.

2013 Series Champion Zach Johnson and Mass earned the front row for the night’s $3,000 to win, 40-lap feature event with Mass getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the field into turn number one and lead the opening lap.

Mass led early with Jeff Provinzino in tow as the leaders circled the black dirt oval out front with Sabraski a close third. Provinzino looked alongside Mass for the lead on several occasions over the first five laps until the first caution of the 40-lapper flew on lap six when Lee Grosz got turned around in turn two, slowing the field.

On the restart, Mass blasted around the 3/8 mile oval with Provinzino and Sabraski in tow again, but action was slowed immediately for a five-car pileup, eliminating Jon Tollakson, John Kaanta and Kevin Eder, and while under caution second running Provinzino slowed and was forced to retire from the event as well.

After one more caution on lap seven, the leaders raced back off out front, while several great battles were ongoing for the lead between Mass and Sabraski and for fifth between Johnson and 11th starting Jayson Good. The Johnson-Good battle saw the two race side by side for about a dozen laps for a top five run, while Sabraski was closing in on Mass for the top spot.

The remainder of the race ran non-stop with Sabraski stalking after Mass and finally stealing the lead off of turn two with just nine laps to go. Once Sabraski got out front he was able to race off to a 0.820 second win. Mass ran second for the second straight night, just ahead of Tollakson, who rounded out the podium on his hometown track. Good was able to win the battle with Johnson for fourth as the duo crossed the finish line fourth and fifth to round out the top five finishers. Todd Frank raced forward 12 spots from 22nd to 10th to earn hard charger honors.

Shane Sabraski won the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, while Kolton Brauer won the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, Colsten Schultz won the Pure Stock feature and Ryan Flaten won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature as well to round out the night.
